DanSteely Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 Hi, I'm struggling to find some silicone mains cable for a soldering iron. My requirements are: 0.5mm silicone 3 core cable in black x5 meters. Although not silicone, could one use microphone cable, using the screen as the earth? Many thanks.
timsabre Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 What, mains down a microphone cable? No!This is the standard stuff on Weller soldering irons https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Unistrand-3-core-0-5mm-Silicone-Cable-White-suits-Weller-TCP-Soldering-iron-180C-/273369648012
Brian Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 What, mains down a microphone cable? No! Well I guess it could be one of the earthed 24V units.
timsabre Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 True, it's just he asked for mains cable in the first sentence. Anyway I would always put silicone cable on a soldering iron cos you just know you are going to catch the cable and melt it.
Yorkie Posted November 7, 2018 Posted November 7, 2018 Antex do black; not sure of size but given that it's 3A and designed for soldering irons I'd say it'll be 0.5mm https://cpc.farnell.com/antex/w021600/1-5m-silicone-lead-w021600/dp/AN00041
