Thomman and music group split, music group up the game with warranties

I'm not sure who has managed to get hold of what information, so I thought I would give a quick round up for those that may have missed the news.

As of this week (confirmed by music group staff) music group are parting ways with thomann - thomann will exhaust their existing stocks and not renew. I'm assuming both will be grown up about warranty claims - both seem to have a good reputation in that regard. other than "moving in diferent directions" I have no more explanation. I should Imagine someone will be along and explain but since we are talking about europe's biggest supplier and one of the worl'ds major brand, I thought it worth mentioning.

A couple of weeks ago Midas announced a warranty extension on all their products (excluding cables and cases). All products bought from 2014 onwards (not sure of the exact date) are covered by a 10 year warranty - replacing the 3 year warranty.

Turbosound have done the same, 10 year warranty from 2014. Lab Gruppen have done the same but as far as I can make out have also allowed ownership transfer to a 2nd owner - meaning you cna buy a Lab amp originally sold after 2014 and the warranty holds for 10 years.

Again, I only know what I have read in their announcements and on their web sites - I'm not affiliated and don't have more information - no doubt more details will be forthcoming at some point but yes, this does include the Midas M32 series. I have seen a dealer on a foreign shore allege some turbosound stuff isn't covered but I see no such restriction on their web site.

It's also worth mentioning I guess that if we buy these products we need to make sure we register and that we keep all receipts and documentation ssafe someplace - if all this shakes out as the web sites suggest you are effectively looking at a lifetime warranty - suddenly the difference in cost between an m32 and an x32 looks very little given the extra 7 years of cover.

edited for typos! (what happened to my spellcheck?!)

The site suggests all Midas products, with the following exceptions.....

Consumable parts, including but not limited to, fuses, batteries, and cables.

Drivers and diaphragm assemblies that have burnt voice coils due to over voltage or a surge from a power amplifier.

Power amplifiers with incorrectly loaded outputs (in terms of ''load''/ohms).

Physical or shipping damage due to improper use of the Products or incorrect installation.

Cable drum assemblies and road/flight cases, for which there will be a one (1) Year warranty period.

Products whose factory applied serial number has been defaced, altered or removed.

Has there been any other news about this, or any verification? ....not that I'm questioning your information - but it just seemed a pretty big news story that I'd have thought would filter out?

Thomann have a piece on their website stating 1 in 9 customers buy one or more pieces of Behringer gear. I don't know how that equates in total order volume or value, but losing it has got to hurt, surely?!

In other news... the closure of AKG offices in Austria (despite the press release from Harman that overall things are going to get better for AKG) has led to 17 of their top level designers forming a new mic company .

I saw the AKG story - apparently not making mics for a while but it will be interesting wen they do.

as for the music group news - not directly no. One fellow online suggested that it may be a strong arm-ing tactic ...apparently music group and guitar center in the usa fell out a while ago but are back doing business together - guitar center having previously said they were being asked to work with too little margin.

to be honest the story caught me off guard - I had said to a few that it would be daft for both and I still don't see why they would go down the separation road.

the chap who posted in a couple of places is a guy called Michael Lapke who is apparently a community specialist for Behringer.- I suspect that means he is the guy that sits on social media as part of their pro active approach.

I keep googling and I can't find any confirmation in the form of a press statement I do notice that some behringer products are no longer available with thomann (x32 rack for example) and that the list is getting longer.

It's all a bit circumstantial and unsatisfactory really.

Can't find any announcement on the Thomann website, but Behringer gear is noticeable by it's absence from the front page of the website. I've been getting surprisingly good deals on x32 stuff from Studiospares. I bought an SD16 a couple of months back for roughly £75 less than the Thomann price after including one of the voucher codes they regularly email me.
