  1. Got ya... That'll teach me to read posts on my phone without my glasses on....
  2. The other quite well known one is Sound Tools, which are quite pricey, like the others. However, I have been using the Thomann CAT Snake series for combined audio and AES3 and they work just fine - albeit in an installed system rather than touring. They are so cheap, it's not really worthwhile making a home made version. They make different XLR pin variants too. https://www.thomann.de/gb/the_sssnake_cat_snake_3mb.htm
  3. Audio Technica certainly made quite a thing about their microphones being re-engineered to reduce RF interference. I'm guessing that the rise of mobile communications meant that such a move was inevitable...
  4. Audio Technica's ES925 system offers different gooseneck lengths, mic capsules and powering options. They work well and sound good. In fact I think I preferred them to the 747s...
  5. 10 out of 10 have a lot of EV spare parts, and the code format on your driver looks to be a similar format to ones on their website. However, what they have as an SX300 12" replacement is not identical to your code. Could it be a variant (e.g. one designed for use in an active cab?)
  6. Probably more expensive, but Audio Technica have a range of gooseneck mics that perform very well. Their ES925 gooseneck is available in length increments from 6" to 24".
  7. (belated) thanks for the responses to this question.... In the end, I didn't need extra speakers for a particular job, but good to know that the ZX1 would have been a good contender.
  8. Just started playing with mine.... It took a few minutes of "what the heck is this simplified functions for audio dummies" and thinking I'd got a Fisher-Price toy before realising I'd clicked on easy setup and it was possible to change to a sensible set of full user controls. I agree about the need to learn where stuff is - although it tends to follow the logic used in SQ/Avantis/dLive. I like the fact that you can tap just about any function on screen and control it with one or more control knobs, or the so fader movement doesn't have to rely on sliding a finger on a screen. The external PSU has an annoyingly stiff and cheap feeling cable, but I'd guess a spare/replacement one wouldn't be hard to source. Although not overly endowed with controls, it does do what I want - provide a simple to use, tactile digital desk that I can leave in the hands of semi trained users. The "faders only" page is useful in this regard. It has enough processing 'umph' to give the sort of eq and dynamics control you'd expect from a larger desk, and enough physical control to get around the "control tablet has lost connection" syndrome or the "someone's walked off with the iPad" palaver. Granted, it would have been wonderful to have an interface that allowed connection to A&H stageboxes (a bit like the two flavours of Yamaha's DM3 - with or without Dante) but I guess that adds considerable cost, needs more back panel space, and potentially undermine sales of higher models. Overall, it's looking good. I'll try popping it on a couple of powered speakers and putting some musicians through the system to see how it handles a proper live environment.
  9. It's also worth bookmarking Rane's Dennis Bohn's Pro Audio Reference... a very handy lookup for all those technical definitions you never never knew you needed! https://www.aes.org/par/
  10. Yes it does - main L&R and the six "auxes" all have delay.
  11. Not yet, but I'm probably getting one in the next few days...
  12. I'd suggest that whether it is portable or not has no bearing on its eligibility for testing.... The latest edition of the code of practice effectively does away with all of those labels we used to argue over, and simply says all equipment needs testing. If it's part of the fixed wiring installation, it should be tested under an EICR, if not, via ISITEE.
  13. It might have been too tight a size, but I found the nitrile dipped ones pushing down on my wedding ring and causing some discomfort. I have been wearing Screwfix's Site thermal gloves all day, today. Great for coiling cables etc., not tactile enough to pick at the PVC tape to wrap around the cables. Having said that, cold cables covered in frost and bits of grass were a pain to tie off in PVC anyway! https://www.screwfix.com/c/safety-workwear/work-gloves/cat850338?brand=site
  14. Thanks, Jon.... seems that there's something newer coming, so the ZXA1s are being sold at quite a reasonable price right now... 🙂
  15. Can anyone share their experience of the powered 8" ZX1? Any idea how it stacks up against the equivalent Turbosound iQ box?
  16. Certainly... and worth doing too, as the quality of the contacts on the cheaper versions can leave much to be desired...
  17. You might have seen the little label placed on the X32's Ethercon connector, that says "STP ONLY!". It simply specifies shielded cable with Ethercon connectors, but also directs you to the Behringer site for more info on AES connectivity.
  18. Does the IEM work without noise if used on its own?
  19. agreed - but now they're not as cheap as they once were..... For me, the greater issue is the disposing of their sales and support network and selling from only one or twe box shifters.
  20. Not going to make PLASA this time, but those pics are wonderful...!
  21. Just for correctness, the DOAs were an SQ and an Avantis.... I did have a faulty dLive but that was after purchase but within warranty. It was sorted out but perhaps slightly more slowly as it occurred during the pandemic.
  22. When this gets asked on the usual discussion groups, it triggers a tsunami of love/hate answers, principally from owners defending their particular choice of desk. My take would be: Presonus make a workable product with an impressive channel count. It's not generally favoured by "pro" engineers though. The Midas is the "acceptable face" of Behringer, is fairly cost effective and most people know how to use it. However, a lack of touch screen and a company that appears to have dropped the idea of customer support means that whilst the product is good, after sales support isn't. It's also an older design, and although the Wing offers some interesting features, I'm not seeing that taking the place of X/M32s that much? A&H are enjoying good press and good sales right now. I've had a couple of dead on arrivals in dLive and SQ, but these were dealt with extremely quickly and through real people who I could call (out of hours in one case) and get help. Most pro engineers will be happy to mix on an SQ if you hire out, and they represent probably the newest design of your choices. If it were me, I'd go for an SQ6 without question.
  23. A quick look online suggests somewhere between 1500 and 1800 Euro each... and presumably a minimum of two are needed? Granted, the existing Tecpro beltpacks and headsets can be retained, but that sort of money takes you possibly into buying a new Green Go system?
  24. The formal visual inspection covers inspecting the fuse and taking the plug top apart. Knowing if a 13A fuse is appropriate on the drill given as an example is all part of being a competent person to carry out the test... (all paraphrased from COPISITEE)
  25. I got asked this question only yesterday... Sennheiser are (apparently) releasing a plug in transmitter as part of their EW-DP range. It offers phantom power, a lapel mic input and a micro SD card slot so you can record the audio if you want. It will work with the EW-D receivers. Wex have it on their site for pre order. I think it's due in October. Of course, if you do not have an EW-D receiver, it may not be cost effective! Wex photo
