Dry hire of PA equipment isn't very lucrative and ROI takes quite long. I do know some that have a reasonable business of renting decent PA speakers with Subs and essentially an iPod lead for people that want decent sound for their Party.

The K & M 21302 stands are hard to beat.

+1 for MLEC. Have used them very happily in the past.

Although it does have monthly rental, I found that the Worldpay offering is quite good. There are no minimum fees or minimum transaction amounts. I would say though, that if you are going months at a time without taking card payments do you really need the facility?

I think that is it a bit unfair of the staff to dump this on you. There are so many facets to consider and you are neither experienced enugh or paid to take responsability for this. I would be surprised if senior management of the institution are aware that you have been put in this position. My best recomendation would be for you to come up with a recomendation of people or companies that can give professional advice. To this end, I have sent you a PM with details of someone in your area who will be able to give an independent balanced viewpoint that is based in 20+ years in the industry.

Couple of my observations. You say that they want lots of bass, but the examples you give are not bass heavy. By saying that you want it to be easily packed away, it would suggest that a ground stack system is going to have to be what yuo look for. £10,000 is not a lot of money for an install of this size. How often do they want to use it? would hiring when required be more cost effective? If someone has said some Bose 802's would do the job, they are not really that knowledgable. Consider the second hand market. The money will go a lot further. I might suggest looking at something like Nexo PS15 tops with LS18 subs, they are good quality boxes that throw very well. You would probably do well to have some decking to put the stacks on. Height is you friend to keep inteligibility for the distance. Don't forget to include the amps and cables in your budget too.

For a portable one, I use this it is dual band which is a must in my opinion.

Not sure if you are asking about hardware as well, if so, these can be useful. Tilting speakers is usually about the dispertion of the HF. The specs for the cabinets should say what the horizontal and vertical dispertion of the HF drivers are. This will put you in the ball park. Then use your ears and wal around the auditorium to listen to how even the distribution is. You will probably want to also look at something for front fill, as you will probably not get very good HF at the front. Some little 6" or 8" boxes would probably fill nicely.

I believe that this is different from factoring, which as I understand it is more to deal with cash flow, this can work for businesses that have to pay out before a customer pays up. I know of somone back in the day who started a contracting recruitment firm, they would have to pay the contractors before their customers' invoices were due, factoring enabled them to do this. I don't think that factoring passes the responsability for the debt, it just helps with cash flow for a percentage of the invoice. If the customer is deliquent, the factoring company still want their money from you and will charge you for late payment.

We have a Beyerdynamic Opus system which is a 1U Quad radio system that uses 1 pair of aeriels. Really useful kit as such a small form factor for 4 wireless systems. Unfortunately it is in the 700MHz band which is being phased out next year. As Ofcom are helping with replacement costs, we are looking for something similar to replace them with. Unfortunately, it looks like Beyer have stopped producing this kit. Although I have found a few cheap knock offs of this system from the likes of IMG or W-Audio Does anyone know of a similar 1U quad system from a pro audio manufacturer?

Just wondering if anyone here can clarify/confirm the regulations regarding using a 7.5 tonne hired vehicle on a tour is? From what I have read, a restricted operators licence allows our company to transport our own goods in a hired (for a duration of less than 1 month) 7.5 tonne van. This can be driven (subject to appropiate licence and governed by tacho/driving hours etc) by people acting as "servant or agent" by the company. (whoever employs or controls the driver) It appears to me that the regulations are all worded around the transportation/delivery of goods which is not exactly what we are looking at. If anyone has any first hand experience that could shed any light on the subject

At the risk of being slightly off topic. The shared license which gives you CH38 plus Ch65 and a bit of 66 is £75 for 1 year (If paid online) These are frequencies that are reserved for PMSE. 2.4GHz while licence exempt is full of other stuff, Bluetooth, WiFi etc. If going for digital radio systems, I would look for ones that operate in CH38 and not compete in the 2.4GHz band. I have lost count on the number of gigs I have done where the Line 6 2.4GHz guitar wireless that the artist has bought with them workes lovely in sound check, but when 500+ mobile phones all pushing out 2.4GHz come into the room they stop working. The reality is, the shared license is not that expensive and I believe you will get better reliability from devices in the shared frequencies. They are a lot less congested.

That sounds like an unworkable figure. I regularly see 70dBA + at indoor gigs just in the interval with the audience talking. A passing car at 7.5m is listed as 75dBA.

Way back in the dim distant past, I remember sitting in a lecture that quoted case law that employers responsibility is not just supplying PPE but ensuring workers used them. This includes monitoring that PPE is used and disciplining employees who do not comply with the PPE requirements. e.g. hard hats worn when they should be eye protection etc.

Just interested to know how others out there access the Matrix masters on an LS9-16 On the 32 they appear in the Master layer, but on the 16, the 16 Mix busses appear on the chanel strips and the only way I have found to get to the Matrix masters is to move the cursor to the upper left of the screen and incriment the channel which then goes into the Matrix masters, although they don't appear on a channel strip. Without studio manager, you can't even select them in the custom layer as you have to be able to select the channel to add it to the custom layer. Interested to know what others think. Mark.
