Just wondering if they need a pod or holder and if they need a controller or can be activated by sending a power supply to them? They are the same as all other pyro devices in terms of how they should be safely fired. Note that if going the DIY route that your Premises Licence, whilst not stating it directly, will almost certainly require you to use proprietary firing equipment.
