Alto 1202 Mixer

Hi all,

We have an Alto 1202 mixer at school and have been having issues with the aux sends, only one of them is outputting.

Anybody seen this? Or have any ideas for a solution, at the moment am having to use a y-connector which then doesn't allow panning,

Many thanks

Matthew

Depends how you're trying to use them.. One looks like PRE (monitor) and one POST (FX).

The MON aux will work regardless of where the channel fader is. The FX aux will only work if the channel fader is up.

If you're panning, I'm assuming you're trying to use them as a stereo pair? Possible but a bit fiddly...

If you're doing what we do, then you could be playing tracks back to stage in stereo through side fills. This would, indeed, require ideally having 2 post fade auxes (or if you don't want to fade the tracks then pre-fade auxes would do).

If you're actually just wanting to have 2 different sends for your monitors (e.g. one for the singer and one for the rest of the band) then that would be 2 mono sends rather than one stereo send. That way is easy. Just set your sends as normal but make sure you have the faders up if you want to use that channel in the post-fade aux. For instance, you might have the band on the pre-fade aux so they can always hear themselves whatever you do out front and the singer on the post-fade aux so that when they walk off stage between songs (for a costume change or for a different singer to do a number) their mic doesn't get into the monitor unwanted (you don't want the band to hear them swearing at the stage manager as to how the drummer set completely the wrong tempo in that last number!).

If you really do want a stereo send through your monitors then you'll need to be careful as to how you set things up. Just remember that your MON aux will go through even with the faders down and the FX aux will need the faders up to go to the output. The best thing to do is to mix the FOH first then play with the aux settings till you get the right mix in the monitors then try not to change anything from then on! E.g. if you are playing music from an iPod or laptop then fade the music from that device not from the mixer. If someone is too loud in one song, ask them to move away from the mic for that number. It can be done by turning down the monitor send on the left channel while you fade the fader on the right channel but it's not ideal and never works properly. Alternately, look for a desk with 2 post-fade monitor sends!
