    X32 Problem

I dare bet it's the power supply on the way out. My X32 rack has done this a couple of times. One day it just won't start up so get those PSU caps replaced and uprated.
  2. Currently in a court room with an XR18 and a MacBook Air. Shallow 4U rack easily hidden away. So, another vote for that!
  3. Thanks for the comprehensive pain story that's obviously happened many times before! Yes. I thought that drilling the bottom out was the only way to try and find out what's up. It'll be a few mins doing or dying. Whatever 🙂 Just a crappy design (but she likes it…) so not too fussed if it all goes pear shaped! If it's broken now, it's not gonna get any worse. I may mail K&M as this is the third one she's had. One got left at a gig, but the second one did the same thing, apparently 😞 Used loads of K&M stuff, and always recommend - but this is maybe just a bad design that can't be improved as is. Dunno!
  4. I tried that for ages and just seemed like it was just spinning… Maybe I was going the wrong way… When I get a min, I may just drill the bottom out and get a socket in to see if I can release the nut on the end of the rod, and hopefully reassemble… Not the end of the world. Just really annoying! Thanks, everyone!
  5. Yeah - I'm 6' 6" and 125kgs haha. I was quite brutal after spending an hour being methodical.
  6. Sudden failure, apparently! Yes, behind the handle (just has a pin keeping it in place), there's a nut and spring on the rod. Just not much room to manoeuvre. No chance of a spanner in there - I might have some pliers skinny enough… Even then, I don't think taking the top off will do much good! Anyway, wherever it's stuck - it just isn't budging! Thanks for your time! Got to go and do some actual gigs.
  7. Don't think so. That's why it won't budge. The clutch must have dropped out the end of the middle tube - and is fully opened so there's no chance of it ever fitting back trying to pull it upwards. Maybe I'll drill through the bottom and see.
  8. https://www.k-m.de/en/products/mic-stands/floor-stands/26085-one-hand-microphone-stand-black/26085-300-55?c=178 Friend of mine just gave me one of these to fix. It's locked at the lowest position. I would love any ideas! Looking inside the handle area, all looks ok, nothing snapped and the handle looks like it's connecting with the the centre rod no problem. All went back together fine. Just finding it impossible to get the top half out of the bottom tube. I can unscrew the collet at the top of the lower tube. I'm guessing the clutch/adjustment screw stuff at the end of the rod has come out of the bottom of the top/inner tube and therefore the handle not doing anything useful. Tried much brute force and nothing moving an inch. It is slightly bent, too, but not enough to make a difference, I don't think! There's no impact marks that would suggest the whole thing inside is being pinched… The bottom of the outer tube is solid where it screws into the base. Anyone think it's worth drilling a hole in the bottom of the fitting? Will I get my fingers or anything in there to help get the clutch back in the tube? https://imgur.com/a/9v0aG (Not my pics, but it's an easy fix if I could just separate the two tubes…!) Cheers for any ideas, Adam
  9. For Audio, If you can find any old MacBook… QLab and a 8 out interface? The Behringer 1820 or the Focusrite version? Any Arduino will do a sensor to a MIDI note for triggering quite easily.
  10. Yes, I bought this phone new here GCC spec a couple of years back. Last one (iPhone 8ish) was a grey US import (for a good bit less than local prices, but obviously unlocked to any network!). Was new in box, with US adapter and definitely unopened. So maybe I could've updated that one to the actual Apple SOS thing software-wise, even though it wouldn't do a thing…
  11. Set one to DMX mode, and sure it'll make itself clear with a cheapo 1:1 fader desk. Maybe master level, then the colours, then strobe and chases halfway up etc…
  12. Just some info for non-UK people, it is certainly cell-based in the UAE. Actually very clever as it knows within a metre that you've crossed into Oman from Dubai, then the enclave within Oman that is Hatta, owned by Dubai, you're back on non-roaming… Nothing to do with personal phone permissions or Location Services etc. So, you can't turn it off - every phone connected to the masts the provider sends it to gets it if the phone is switched on. Every week, or any national day, our provider name can be changed at will; so "Happy New Year" can be scrolling across our screens for two days. I give my money to Virgin Mobile, but Etisalat and du are the government owned providers with the actual infrastructure. Can do a full volume "PING" for anything they like. I'm sure the UK can do exactly the same and target stuff to where it's actually needed and not for it to just become an annoyance 🙂 EDIT So, checking my phone, it doesn't say Virgin next to the 5G signal bars. It says "1B Meals" A Ramadan charity thing, I guess.
  13. Strangely - Had one in Dubai for the first time in ages yesterday, because it was raining (actual windows also available). Sounded quite clangorous, glorious, and musical with the 100 phones around me all coming in with a full whack 'BONG' within a couple of seconds of each other! Like a sci-fi church bell call in 360º surround. They brought it in a few years ago. Not too obtrusive, usually. It was used for curfews and the like during a recent plague.
  14. Had an issue with more than one AV adapter not being able to cope with 1920x1080 going in to an LED wall server. One was a no-name Apple AV copy, one was a U-Green dual USB-C adapter. These worked fine into the venues 800x600 projector, and a Samsung TV or two, but no dice with the LED wall. Caused a load of problems with the Mac just going blank; but, sometimes it would work and the list of resolutions was very weird. Proper Apple one fixed it right away.
  15. Do you NEED projection? Could a mood be set with back/cyc lighting, and costume and music? The above advice is good. Projection shouldn't be the focus. Done badly, and on the cheap, it will detract. The performers are the most important thing on stage - light them first and then fill in what you NEED to to get your story across. Write the scripts so that 'it's obvious' to the audience where the cast are, or what they're feeling etc etc…
  16. Yes, missed the Stage LX bit at the bottom of the page. They've always done great work for me in the past. This stuff just appears a lot less industrial and teacher/church friendly, at the expense of not being easily flexible. A few washes and a few flashy disco things on subs would do a lot of gigs. Sure the support will be fine…
  17. Looks like one of any number of those re-badged lighting desks… Like these https://www.thomann.ae/adj_dmx_operator_i.htm https://www.thomann.ae/botex_dc_1216.htm 3-pin DMX out and sometimes limitations on channels etc., but they work. Programming ain't the easiest! Guessing the selling point is they build and program whatever you need into the rack, and it's a couple of button presses to get things to happen.
  18. This is a great idea. Thanks for that. I don't mind burning up the extra four outs, but I think the less gear involved, the better. 1x local monitor should do them. Matrix is an Aten VM8080HA. Nicely built. Thanks again for your different approach.
  19. Cheap is good! They won't pay for a decent 'system' even though currently the audio is BSS Soundweb (not enough inputs so bar staff are switching phono leads about!) and a nicely well built Aten HDMI matrix… Corporate struggles
  20. Yes, that kind of thing would be great. Thank you. Was trying to do it on the cheap, as their IT dept. have a load of old computer monitors lying around, so just really wanted a black box to stick in the back of the rack. Basically 4x HDMI I/O and a split screen output to a preview monitor. Space is a little tight, so was going against a few small monitors, although I did get a great little 7" thing a couple of months back. An emergency solution for my Mac mini after the laptop had a drinks accident. Could see if I could make room to mount a bank of them somewhere.
  21. Hey guys n girls… looking for a bit of kit, if it exists? A quad HDMI multiviewer - with thru outputs to the already installed 8x8 HDMI matrix… The venue* have 4x sources (3x TV receivers and a line from outside for a PC, and 4x outs to TVs and outdoor LED screen etc.). They need to preview what they're outputting before making it 'go live', and not having to have someone at the other end of the building on the phone telling the guy with the remote inside if it's the correct channel would be a bit more professional. Or, do I have to get 4x splitters and even more hateful HDMI cables? Cheers, Adam * my local 🍻

    Q lab

Suppose you could run 2x computers with an instance on each and hope for the best - but two MacBooks isn't cheaper than an audio/MIDI licence, which gives you lots for your money, really!
  23. Just as an addition to iPad headphone outs. Happened to two friends of mine on solo vocal/instrumental gigs who don't want to use an interface and rely on the headphone out. (Strangely the guitarist/vocal has an X32 rack, and the sax/vocal has an XR18! Make sense of that)… The iPad just sometimes has a total cut at anything above about 12k and needs the 1/8" cable shoved in and out a couple of times to get all the top end back. Not repeatable, and with two totally different set ups/iPads/cables etc. Never once happened over USB to an interface!
  24. My old 2012 Mac used to do this. No audio for a while would make a tiny pop in headphones then become a tiny bit hissy. Nothing like an annoying buzz, though.
  25. My X32 Rack is on to it's third PSU! It's around 8 years old and has been switched on more or less 24/7 to be fair…
