dbuckley
If there is a lot of LEDs in the rig, then you can use them as "sort of" strobes with desk programming. OK, its technically and visually nothing like a real strobe, but the reality is that it is often a repetitive quick flash of light is what is being called for rather than a "real" strobe. And modern strobes aren't even "real" strobes either, the light on duration of an Atomic (or copy) is orders of magnitude more than a proper, old school capacitor discharge strobe, milliseconds versus microseconds, but its highly acceptable in a theatrical or rock and roll context. musht
Its the super short xenon pulse that Prof Harold `Doc` Edgerton invented to capture images like these http://edgerton-digital-collections.org/galleries/iconic Back at the original topic, no one seems to laugh at the Stagg Headbanger been mentioned here before, despite name sounding like a whisky based alcopop... At 120 quid each Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stagg-SLI-MHW-HB10-0-Headbanger/dp/B00CFYV4GI for a 70W head its hard to go wrong. They have a strobe in the DMX map so 150 quid on a dedicated strobe, wouldn`t bother, get some more HBs instead. Some beam effects might be nice, but moving head spots would eat your budget, some pretty good DMX controlled Derby style effects at reasonable cost. Remember, control, stands, cabling and definately cases or soft bags as well....
