Nicktaylor
Suddenly one of mine runs a temperature that reaches the safety shut down temperature. I assume the thermocouple device works as you can see the temperature rise on the display. Now I have it home I hopefully will work out how t access the head fan which I assume might be at fault. However does anyone have any tips where to look?
gyro_gearloose
How often is the unit opened up and cleaned? A build up of dust can restrict airflow, which will in turn lead to over-heating issues. Also check to make sure the fans haven't been cooked, and that they actually work. Frisco
Been a few years since I opened one, but IIRC, to access the head fan. Remove top cover.Remove four screws on rectangular plate.Remove two cables leading to/from fan (that would be the fan cable and temperature sensor?)Remove the four screws holding fan in place in holder. Remove fan - noting which way round it originally was! The other fans, there is one in a side arm, and one in the base.
Nicktaylor
Thanks for your answers. I found the wiring had been repaired and I think maybe the the plug was shorting intermittently. I have ordered a new fan in case it is at fault. Soak tested for an hour. It measured 67 degrees C at the end. Does that seem okay? All my others are out so nothing to compare! Jivemaster
Usually dust and haze fluid are collected on the fan reducing the airflow and cooling, and also collected on the PCB ultimately blowing chips as the goo becomes conductive.
