ianknight Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 I've just seen this post on another forum and thought "What? Really?" I'm quite prepared to accept that it may be rumour or misinterpretation but I was wondering if anyone else had heard similar or perhaps I missed an announcement somewhere or if it's this seaons "big rumour"?
vinntec Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 A quick look on the Philips main site shows that I can't easily link to Strand, Selecon or Showline anymore. They are still there but have semi-disappeared. We have a shedload of Selecon PL LEDs (for a theatre of our size) which is a concern if they are getting out. From the main website: http://www.philips.co.uk/about/company/global/businesses/lightinghighlights/index.page Shaping the Future Philips Lighting is the leader in lighting, driving the digital lighting revolution. We are using deep customer insights and technological innovations, coupled with our position as a trusted brand and our global leadership position, to lead the digital lighting revolution. We address people's lighting needs across a full range of market segments. Indoors, we offer lighting solutions for homes, shops, offices, schools, hotels, factories and hospitals. Outdoors, we offer solutions for roads (street lighting and car lights) and for public spaces, residential areas and sports arenas. In addition, we address the desire for light-inspired experiences through architectural projects. Finally, we offer specific lighting applications in specialised areas, such as horticulture and water purification. With new lighting technologies, such as LED technology, and the increasing demand for energy-efficient solutions, Philips will continue shaping the future with groundbreaking new lighting applications."It doesn't say when this was last changed, but no mention of theatre anywhere - goodbye Selecon, Strand and Showline? I don't know but am now concerned - what about our 5 year warranty which still have 4 years to run?
musht Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Vaguely remember something about Philips seperating the lighting business, worlds largest lighting maker, from the healthcare business,MRI scanners and like. Lumileds LED making has been merged with the sutomotive lighting unit and is getting packaged for sale as a seperate unit. Osram were spun out from Siemens year or two back and have just bought Clay Paky. Big money doing a shuffle , just hope that the collateral damage falls outside the entertaiment division.
Adam L F Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Sounds like a large rumour to me, Phillips are due to exhibit at LDI in November, but you never know there could be a buyout announcement? The rumour mill will have to spin until then I guess!
Graham NZ Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Philips Entertainment Facebook for EuropeVariliteStrandSelecon Hi Philips is fully engaged in the lighting business. PLASA saw new product, LDI will have new product exhibited. Philips has announced a change in its opperating model with a Lighting business and a Healthtech business. As as been the case all along the entertainment brands fit within Philips Lighting. Please follow us on Facebook or twitter if you want to get the real news on a regular basis.
