Defining "Freelance"

To finally put an end to the confusion, this article came up earlier today with some new guidelines on how freelancers can be recognised from employees:

If that's a little too long to read it can be summed up with this:

We went back to basics and studied Ivanhoe, by that great English author Sir Walter Scott, who first defined and used the word "freelance". We found that a common indicator was that the freelancers all had a horse and carried a lance. From now on, all a freelancer has to do is turn up at their clients riding a horse and carrying a lance. That should sort things out and make it easy for everyone to recognise them."

Actually, providing your own horse and lance would go a long way towards removing you from the classification of 'employee'.

No wonder there is no sense to be had, the boss freelancer himself says;

Will the local law enforcement agencies recognise that lances are a badge of office and not dangerous weapons?”

He really ought to know that for mercenary warriors such as the farm boys round here a lance is a "tool of the trade" is tax-deductible and, just like chainsaws, are welcome on flights as long as they are in the hold.
