CraigG
Anyone know what fixture this is? Seen it a few times on shows and keep wondering, can get some nice chases with a bunch of them, and gives a nice tungsten effect. Jivemaster
Is that one lantern or three? Have you looked at the Griven range of Centrepieces as once used in discos? Once these were tungsten, then discharge, then (now) LED. They may move but they were NOT DMX. See what the others think too, a better identification comes if we can see the metal box! CraigG
That's 3 of them. Unfortunately this is just a screen grab (The Voice UK) so I can't really get a better angle, but they're basically each just a simple rectangular housing with a reflector and lamp on a pole from the centre. I'll take a look at Griven EDIT: Found a much better pic of them, here http://s24.postimg.org/g1gmh1xjp/ring_lamp.jpggreenshot screen capture
Brian
... a simple rectangular housing with a reflector and lamp on a pole from the centre... So, 6 of these and a bit of custom metalwork then...
Joe Bleasdale
Spacelights - common fixtures I'm TV & film. Not usually how they are used though! Thanks.
grandMA_the_2nd
They are spacelights with the shroud taken off. Hundreds of these are used in film studios to create even coverage - and sometimes I mean hundreds. You can take the shrouds off for this tungsten effect or have a variety of shrouds depending on use (black with white etc)... http://eyefish.tv/dictionary/space-light
CraigG
Alright, thanks guys. Pretty interesting way to use the fixtures
mark_s
I guess I'm too late to tell you that they're (a very creative use of) spacelights, so for completeness sake I'll add that they're more commonly used like this:
timsabre
It's very sad, but I instantly recognised that as the set of Sadie J (which my children seem to watch incessantly, I hasten to add)..
crazyshaun
Are these the same as what are used in the background on th tv show million pound drop? For those who don't watch it
grandMA_the_2nd
Yes... they have been used in this way on numerous tv shows for years now... lots of T4 Music specials etc...
vbm
Australian band The Temper Trap have been using them in vertical, non-shrouded, "rock'n'roll" mode over the last couple of years as you can see here. The LD is Louis Oliver, I believe.
grandMA_the_2nd
If your into tungsten lovliness then you might like the new lighting fixture I have designed in conjunction with James Thomas Engineering - The Patt 2013. Its a retro vintage light without the vintage price tag. I hope you dont see this as a blatant advert, its more that its interesting that as designers we dont just have to design the rig we can work to design our tools also. Have a looksee here http://www.timroutledge.co.uk/Patt_2013_retro_light_design.php We have used it on a few shows now too... Links Here:
maxjones2000
I saw your Patt 2013's in our warehouse a few weeks back! Have to say, I was very impressed - very nice looking lanterns! Nice n' shiny too.... :P
MrBoomal
First time I really noticed them was in the "Valerie" by Mark Ronson video. Clearly, more versatile then the manufacturer ever realised.
