gibbothegreat Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Hi, searched for this and didn't find anything, so apologies if there is already a thread on something like this... We have an ELC focus Hand 3 wireless DMX riggers remote. The receiver sits in the control room, in line between the DMX out from the desk (Strand 520/Leapfrog) and the DMX splitter rack which also contains the link down to the dimmers (Zero88 Chillis). This rack is some 5 meteres away from the desk. Whenever the remote is plugged in line, we get various dimmers flickering rapidly. 5ks and HF dimmers seem particularly prone, with the result that the HF racks are switching the relays like mad typists. I suspect this can't be good for them, so we are currently in the habit of powering down thsi rack when the wireless is in use. This didn't occur when the venue first opened (2009) but began sometime after that and has slowly increased in intensity Anyone any experience of this, or thoughts on what might be causing it?
maeterlinck Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 What fault finding have you done? So does the flickering occure with the remote plugged in but handset turned off? What happens when you isolate at various points? It's a merging unit so do you get the issue with the input plugged in?
gibbothegreat Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 Thanks for reply. It happens whenever the receiver is plugged in line, regardless of the state of either the main board or the remote, and whether or not the DMX feed from the desk is connected, powered up or not. The receiver sits on top of the rack with the DMX splitters and the line from the control room to the dimmers: this is hardwired direct into the dimmers in the dimmer room, so there's no further point of isolation after that feed, and the receiver is the thing immediately before it, would guess the DMX patch lead between them is 0.75m long. Have tested and tried swapping all the leads, to no effect.
Brian Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 What frequency do these operate on? There are a couple of venues I know of that have had big problems with wireless kit operating in 'Licence Exempt' bands.

Hadn't thought to check that, but the manual says 433.92MHz in the EU Haven't contacted ELC as yet
