  1. I use the 2450 batteries and an intelligent charger with my Sennheiser G2. They last well but in a multiple operator environment everyone would need to be organised and disciplined with the use and charging regime.

    Sennheiser Ew100 G3

Sennheiser do a fixed price repair which costs about £95+VAT including postage. That would be the best way to get the G3 transmitter repaired. I doubt whether anyone here could accurately diagnose the problem without the transmitter in front of them and even then they may not be able to fix it. Sennhieser will be able to fix it.
  3. Have you found any old Thorn lighting control to restore Paul? I toured Europe with a QT120 in 1983 and the interval was always exciting wondering whether the floppy drive would load Act 2 or whether we would be busking it on the pin patch. It always worked.
  4. Am I the only person who objects to pink coloured microphones being referred to as 'Skin Coloured' ? Suppliers like Highlite listed above seem to live in the stone age.
  5. Pre Covid I worked on installing a new lighting rig in a studio for a very major international financial TV broadcaster in their multi billion pound new building in London. The whole installation was with LED's with fixtures and several kilometres of LED tape in the set. The studio was planned to be used for 4 hours a day to be the London base for a global channel. Covid happened and since then I have semi retired. A couple of weeks ago I found out that after 4 years the entire LED rig is being replaced like for like because the client left the rig on 24/7 for 4 years and got to the end of the life expectancy of the rig. Technology cannot inprove the world when met with human stupidity.
  6. All the advice above is relevant. I'm pretty much looking at retirement having been freelance/self employed for over 40 years. During that time I have come across just about every invoice payment scenario I could have thought up plus a few. If you have not already done so build up some financial reserves for emergencies and unforseen circumstances because they will arise. Your policy to whether you allow some clients more flexibilty in when they pay you will depend on your relationship with them and how valuable you think they will be to you.

    Bose 802 rigging

James Thomas Engineering made hanging frames for the 802. That company has gone out of business so finding them could be difficult. A lot of AV companies have the frames with their stock of speakers so you could check to see if any are selling them off. There are also hanging brackets which don't enclose the 802 but you would need to be very confident in your secondary hanging in the event of failure of the primary.

    AKG C747 alternative

747s are balanced in the XLR connector which is a couple of metres from the mic. That is why they are more prone to interference from mobile phones. I preferred the Audio Technica 935 on lectern duty but that is no longer manufactured.
  9. Don't go any lower spec than the Trantecs. With that number of channels you will be asking for trouble. As sleah and sunray have said the operator is an important part of your sound system so if you don't have anyone competent to use a system with multiple radio mics think very hard before burdening someone less experienced with too much equipment. You will also need a decent mixer, speakers and graphic eq.
  10. It does make no sense. There has to be an adjustment because tech crews can't be expected to live under a railway bridge in a sleeping bag for love of the job which is what it will come to without get out payments or a wage they can live on. I was surprised to look at the advert for deputy head of sound at Brum Rep and the hourly pay was only a quid over the minimum wage. That was plus get outs but that would need to top it up to 30k to be able to live in Birmingham with anything other than a student lifestyle [probably minus the booze and parties ...]. The adjustment needs to be an acceptance that shows which can't make money don't happen except in very rare situations where someone is carrying a loss leader. I do fully accept Pauls comments about hiking up prices for 'extras' which should be part of the contract. In many ways our situation is like that of NHS workers. It is an accepted fact that those who work in the industry do so because they like it so the pressure on those at the bottom of the pile to work for peanuts continues. Unlike the NHS workers our industry does not appear a necessity or have the support of a lot of the population. In an internet and multi media world there are too many theatres and there will be a weeding out of the weak, sadly.
  11. As Ynot has indicated the only way to make crewing a show during the week or working the fit up worthwhile is to be paid a get out fee otherwise the pay isn't enough to make the job viable. Any company that doesn't want to pay a get out should provide their own fit up and running crew to be supervised by the venue stage manager and should provide written documentation of the formal training their crew has undertaken to show competence to crew the show in your venue. The visiting company will also have to show full insurance for their crew. I would put that into the contract your venue signs with shows that visit so the shows can make an informed decision as to how they prefer to operate. There is no point in discussing it when the show is already in the venue.
  12. There is a JBL Control 1 clamp whch is designed to bolt the speaker to a wall. It can be adjusted for the angle of dangle. You would need to fix the wall mount part of the clamp to the LX bar with G clamps or some such. Google 'JBL Control 1 clamp'.
  13. I was with Zen Internet for a number of years until last Autumn when I had a problem with varying - almost non existent internet speeds. After 6 weeks and several visits from Open Reach technicians plus replacement equipment from Zen and several long phone calls theye were unable to fix the problem and I had to change suppliers to Community Fibre. Zen were very very nice and very friendly but useless with no one taking responsibilty for resolving the problem. I had to piggy back my computer off my neighbour's WiFi for 6 weeks to have internet access. Zen keep getting very good feedback and it made them complacent in my case.
  14. Pin 1 is the cable screen with sleeving so it can't touch anything else. Pin 2 is Signal/Hot/+ve Pin 3 is Return/Cold/-ve There is no connection to the lug you have put a red pen mark around in your opening message. Please look at online demos of how to solder XLR plugs and practice to improve your technique if the photo in your message of 2 hours ago is the standard of your soldering. Sorry if this comment is harsh but I want you to be successful in your wiring.
  15. I've got a Simda carousel projector which I tried to sell pre Covid without success so a couple of weeks ago I listed it for £9.75 with a tray and 5 spare lamps. No interest ..... I'll offer it to a charity shop and if not it will go to the tip. These are about as popular as domestic gas lights and those who want one will have got one by now. I wouldn't spend your time trying to sell the Elmo's. Packing them well is a lot of work for a very small/if any return.
