jamesperrett
Do you really mean 20th century? There have been major changes in the past 12 years. Actually I'm not sure that there have been many major changes in the last 12 years. Hard disk recording was well established by the end of 1999 and even the robotic autotune effects that have become so prevalent in pop music over the last few years were around at that time. About the only thing that has changed is the cost of this technology. James.
Jivemaster
Can I have two marks towards my degree please? The 20th century took us from live recorded wax cylinders right up to fully digitally processed and stored sound with or without compression. Tony Lake
Pre 2000's the industry wasn't flooded with content. Recording studios were one of the only ways to get a decent recording. ALSOThe internet has drastically changed how we create, what we create and has thrown intellectual property out of the window. for the "creativity" part of your dissertation you may find this interesting. Pre-90's recording equipement I can't really comment on, but I think the consensus is that over time it has become more accessible and cheaper. Also probably worth mentioning "the loudness war" http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/sep11/articles/loudness.htm Hope there's some food for thought in there.
