numberwrong
Hi all, Going to be using Lee 15 HT - Deep straw, and Lee 164 - Flame Red in 36 and 50 degree S4's (575w) all the lanterns will have break up gobos in. They will be on for 16hrs a day for 20 days Would people advise to put heat shield in all the lanterns? or due to the lower wattage lamp and gobo blocking the heat will they last without? adam2
I think that it would probably be OK, but if your reputation depends on it then remember that heat shield is cheap. Rember to leave a good air gap around the heat shield. Alternatively, can the gell be replaced as a precaution during the run ?
the kid
If you have the money you could a) get the gobo made in glass with the colour mixed b) get a dichroic "gel" to put in. I would go for not burn but maybe bleach out.
numberwrong
I'm gonna try and get the extra frames and heat shield if possible. Thanks for the advise.... as long as there are no comments along the lines of "they'll last about 4 days mate" I'll sleep easier. Cheers
indyld
The Deep Straw being the colour it is (basically a medium secondary) is going to have a roughly 2/3 transmission. So you probably don't have to worry about that colour. The Red will obviously block light more but isn't a particularly saturated colour and also tungsten is a little shorter on the absorbed blue anyway so again less of a worry. You are not putting the hot lamp very near the gel by using a profile and the heat dissipation of a S4 is very much at the back end as anyone that grabs the lamp housing will know. You are planning on using HT and HPL575s. In short, I wouldn't worry a great deal based on the situation as you describe about burnout but the colour may well fade over time as mentioned. If you were talking short nose cans with L120 in it would be a different story.
mac500
Make sure you put the heat shield in a separate frame not in the same frame
