And loose light output and decrease lamp life

so its not worth it then?

Put it this way, most people want to do the opposite with their halogen lights to save themselves money (and improve the quality of light outputed by the fixture).

If you want a halogen based scanner, there are plenty of them around.

I agree with what the others have said. (I have 8 of them myself, I love 'em to bits! I got my first 4 in 1996 when they were quite new)

You must have them on a lot, the HTI's last for yonks normally!

Not a great idea to be honest.

Like what has been pointed out, you'd be cheaper to run a discharge lamp than a halogen no matter how much you use the fixtures.

You would also lose light output and have a darker colour temperature.

Check that you have the right lamps in. Some HTI 150w's come in 750ish hours but you should be looking at the 2000 hour lamps....
