owen_mcauley
Going to use some spare par 56 short nose lanterns I've got to make some backstage working lights, but I want them dimmable and controlled off the stage manager's desk. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a 2KW standalone dimmer? Have searched RS but can't find one! Cheers guys Owen
Peter Russell
Might be worth having a look at Terralec, if you haven't already, as they do several small stand-alone dimmers. HTH, Peter

Angelic
I know Thomann in Germany do them - don't know about the foreign connectors you'd get with them though, they're usually pretty good - I've done quite a bit of business with them and they haven't let me down (yet!). Anyway, check these out..... http://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/thoiw2_art...kel-152225.htmlhttp://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/thoiw2_art...kel-152226.htmlhttp://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/thoiw2_art...kel-160050.htmlhttp://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/thoiw2_art...kel-160053.html Everything's in English and includes vat. Hope this is of some use! Rich.
bigjohn
Anytronics make them, I think they are available in 5a, 10a and 20a. They start at about £100. AC sell them, and they are good for what they do. I had some of the DMX ones as spot dimmers, and they did a great job. Local RCD and everything. Hope this helps. John
egw
Mode also do 2k dimmers, the SD2500. They can be bought as just the card or boxed and pretty. From memory the cards cost about £60 new. The link below is to a company that is selling some single dimmers secondhanf for £25, no idea what the kits like though. http://www.pearcehire.co.uk/pages/sales/index.htm
Thirdtap
I have brought and used the 2kw anytronics dimmers. They seem pretty good. Also have a look at the zero88 Alpha packs. They now do a DMX version and if you get the iec version you have 6 sockets. Cost around £120 plus £ 20 ish pounds for the wall bracket.

Angelic
I myself have only had one problem with Terralec, and to be fair it was with a product they had out of stock. It still shouldn't have taken over a month and a half to get something from Germany (source of said product) to me though, and it did take me a few goes at emailing them to remind them to actually send my product! However, the rest of the stuff I have had from them arrived before I expected - I make my own flightcases and order bits from them (which reminds me, does anyone know anywhere cheaper and more wholesale (rather than retail) for flightcase hardware?!), the bits I ordered arrived in top condition and with great speed despite the size and weight! IMHO Terralec are good at their jobs! Regards, Rich.
themadhippy
nothing wrong with terralec, especially since there selling a 72 channel dmux for around £140,that bares a very close resembalance to one others sell for double the price. As for flight case bits have you tried adam hall? http://www.adamhall.com/
Angelic
I was tempted by the very same 72 channel demux, but it's Botex - not great, but cheap!
