noise
Where is the best place to source these cases with zips (I guess almost like pencilcases) from?!
brainwave-generator
Wilko. They're even called Pencil Cases. But seriously.. it's a lot cheaper to buy a Wilko padded pencil case for 1.99 or whatever than it is to buy a Shure branded case (which isn't even padded...) which will cost you about 10.. just because it has 'Shure' scrolled down the side. Alternatively, get funky and buy a briefcase type flight case sorta thing. Though I will say, if storing mics in foam, put them in a sandwich bag first. Over age and, worsened by changing temperature / humidity (IE, the differerence between overnight in the bus trailer and in the hot sweaty venue!), the foam deteriorates and turns into a gooey gunky substance which is not desirable to have all over your mics. Simon Lewis
And if you can't afford £8+VAT, Canford do a PVC mic pouch for £5.15 + VAT...
mutley
Or go for the cheapskate version?
Bobbsy
And if you can't afford £8+VAT, Canford do a PVC mic pouch for £5.15 + VAT... £8.00 plus VAT is a positive bargain compared to what you find if you go to the bottom of the Flints page. They'll also sell you a leather case....for £25 plus VAT. Sorry microphones...much as I love you, you don't get leather. My collection of cheap Ben 10, Transformers and Barbie plastic cases will have to do! Bob
MarkBarl
I can recommend the Thomann microphone flight cases like http://www.thomann.d...ikrocase_14.htm For pretty much the cost of an SM58 a rugged foam filled case. Far more protection than a simple soft case.
Doug Siddons
Always worth a look round your local camera shop for both soft and hard cases. Also for soft your local supermarket superstore you can even get nectar points with them!
johnnymurray
Or even a microphone shaped pencil case: http://www.helix.co.uk/product.php/458/0/microphone-case Used the Helix ones before without the X-Factor logo on and they fit Sennheiser G2's in perfectly! jbaileypro
I have used one of these cases at a venue. In the holes where the microphones are placed they are smaller so they grip the bottom of the microphone to make sure they don't fall out.http://www.highlite.nl/silver.econtent/catalog/highlite/entertainment_products/dap_audio/bags_cases/roadcases/flightcase_for_12_microphonesThey also had a few AKG C1000s which don't fit in the holders but they do fit flat across the holders which still protect them greatly. Room in the middle for radio belt packs and mic clip holders. Very well made as well (flight case standard). If not then I have got one of the these cases for a small monitor, you can just cut the foam out to suit its purpose. Isn't anywhere near as well made as the other case but does the job.http://www.maplin.co.uk/small-flight-case-222024 Again normal pencil cases are the best bet, the ones that are transparent I find to be not as strong as the proper kiddie ones. Simon Lewis
This Adam Hall foam insert fits the cheap and cheerful aluminium cases that you can buy for about £15 at B&Q http://www.adamhall.com/uk/media/products/280/2806-p1.jpgAnd this Adam Hall foam block can have a suitable flightcase built to accomodate it for the larger microphone collection. http://www.adamhall.com/uk/media/products/874/87406MI-p1.jpgI prefer either aproach to mic pouches, unless the pouches are themselves placed in something more substantial... The Shure pouches are about £1.50 each, which I have always thought was very reasonable considering how durable they are.

Chappie
Thanks for everyones suggestions. Phill - where can you get the Shure pouches from at that price?Shure. List price for an SM58 sized pouch (95A2313) is about £2.36 and the longer radio mic handheld pouch (95B2313) is £2.21 (last time I purchased a load anyway).
