theonlygolux
Hello Ladies and Gents, The school I work at has suggested that they give me some Risk Assessment training, but are probably going to lump me in with their normal courses which are run by ex-building site chaps who don't know theatre well. I'm sure the principles are the same, but I thought I might ask if anyone knows of anywhere that does this training specifically (or at least mostly) for theatre bods? Thanks - and I hope I'm not duplicating...
richb
First place I'd suggest trying would be http://www.abtt.org.uk/courses.htm . They have specific courses, or send an email detailing exactly what you're after, and they can put you in touch with suitable providers. I believe that you may have to be a member, but it might also be worth your school taking out a (reasonably priced) membership that would then enable you (and them) to keep up to date on general developments...seem that they may not be averse to spending what's required to ensure that they're covered, so would be worth raising. Just Some Bloke
Stage Electrics do good, industry specific, training courses at sensible prices. Have a look here - you want 'H&S in the Entertainmnt Environment' which covers Risk Assessment.
kerry davies
Or you could pay me loadsamoney for a Live Events Safety Passport course. See; http://www.psa.org.uk/about-us-safety-passports_intro.asp for reasonably priced alternatives to my usurious rates. In all seriousness though, providing courses on how to fill in an RA seems much like money for old rope to me. The HSE websites and guidance notes make it simple enough for competent practitioners and if you ain't one of them then you should not be employed.Try starting with this site and working through the links; http://www.hse.gov.uk/simple-health-safety/
the kid
I did one a while back, about 5 years ago from a company that "specialised" in education RA's it was good, but for something "themed" to performing arts it was quite poor. That Stage Electrics one looks great though.
