meliorproductions
Hello all, We are trying to project images onto the two sides of our stage (onto a suspended cloth). The only problem we have is our stupid layout of rigging etc! The projector will need to be suspended from the lighting rig... but the laptop needs to be on the ground (about 30ft!!!!!!!) Anyidea how this could work? Also - is there a way I can run the two side projections from the same laptop via a dual VGA for example??? It would have been handier if we were able to back project.... but we really don't have the space! Many thanks, Us!
Murray
heyy the simplest solution seems to be just to run say 15m of vga cable up to the projecor, or is there a reason why this cant happen... as for running them from the same laptop, this is fairly simple, all that is required is a vga y-splitter of preferably a powered splitter, if using a y-splitter you would run one vga cable to the first projector, split it, take one feed to the first projector, then take the other feed across to the other projector if using a powered vga splitter/amp then it would most probably be easier to leave it at the aptop end and run 2 seperate vga cables to the 2 projectors hope this was a help
revbobuk
Have you already got the projectors? Some have wireless capability, which isn't much use if you want video or rapid transitions, but will do fine for static images. Or use a VGA - Cat5 converter, and that should help with the distances. Keep the resolution down if you can, and that will help with bandwidth.
Russ83
Over that distance you should be able to run a standard VGA cable from the laptop to the first projector at a resolution of 1024x768. Try and avoid running the cable parallel to any mains cable and especially away from power cables coming from a dimmer. Have a look on your projectors as many have an main input and then a second connector that can be configured as either an input or output. You can then run another cable from projector 1 output to projector 2 input. If your projector does not have this facility then as said above buy a powered VGA splitter and place this between the laptop and projector 1 with the second cable going to projector 2. sleepytom
just get a long VGA cable. VGA will go quite a long way, I regularly use upto 50m runs of VGA. Don't use really cheap cable but go for something like the Van Damn stuff which is good quality. If your getting issues from cable length then try using a lower resolution (the lower the res the further it will go without breaking up) or invest in a VGA amplifier from kramer or extron. the kid
Don't most projectors have a VGA out to clone to another projector, I know my new one does.
David Lee
Not all projectors have the VGA out. Best to use a distribution amplifier. Also, using the out of a projector means if you lose that projector you will also lose the other image. Edit to add: You may get mains issues if they are powered of different circuits so you may want to run power from the same circuit as the source or look into humbuckers; cat5 extenders or fibre. revbobuk
I've found that if you drive a second projector off the output of the first, then with some projectors you get a noticeable delay when an image changes - I'd prefer to go with two outputs from a DA. meliorproductions
Many thanks to you all! I apologies for my ignorance..... the solution seemed simple enough... but I always though VGA cables cAme in a standard computer to projector length! Will be looking into getting the leads this week and experimenting. Thankyou again.
