Dave
You could try ringing the competitor and talk it through with them. It sounds like a very odd thing to do but it's not at all unusual for it to happen in most types of contracting. I'm not suggesting collusion or price fixing, just a quiet word to point out that they could be hurting themselves as much as you. If they still reckon they can do the same job for £3k less without any pain then you'll have to take a look at your own business to see why you can't.I once had to get quotes for a large rig/crew from a number of suppliers. There was significant variation in price - from what I remember, between £2500 and £7000 for pretty much the same stuff. Firms specialising in corporate work do tend to charge more than those that do theatre or music. Needless to say we went for one of the cheaper quotes, which was still from a major supplier. Different firms do have different overheads and different business models. But if you're up against a fly-by-night outfit it's difficult (and pointless) to compete. slim_mcslim
Ask them to send through a copy of the competitors quote before you offer to match it. It may be that they are being a little cheeky and trying to get reduced rates by playing you slightly. Unfortunately I know its true, as the actual contact at the client is a friend of mine who I have worked with for the last 7 years for various clients. Basically the other supplier is not charging the client for set-up and subsidising the delivery costs of a 17t truck. Along with a couple of other minor tweaks... Pete McCrea
**Sniff sniff** I can smell something Fishy: Oh look SXS EVENT PRODUCTION SERVICES LIMITED Incorporated a month and a bit before the original company failed. I wonder if they thought there might be problems. And let me guess, around the same period Plug Video sold all it's assets to SXS Event Production Services Ltd. indyld
**Sniff sniff** I can smell something Fishy: Surely not, I can't believe it. Everyone in the events industry knows such consumate professionals and wonderful service providers would never do such a thing. I won't hear of it and the next person to mention the word phoenix should be banned.
