djw1981
Hi The voluntary organisation I work with has obtained two alphapack 1. We were looking to use it with a desk which puts out DMX, and thus AIUI we need a demux. Can anyone advise how much one would cost and where best to look. We are happy to go second hand / used. I saw http://www.thomann.de/gb/botex_me72_multi_exchanger.htm and AIUI it does 0 to +10V ouput and is thus suitable for use with the Alphapack. Can anyone comment on the quality of this unit etc. Thanks David
bruce
The botex is basically the same unit as the Strand S72 - more info here, and seems to be good value for money. I doubt you'll get anything cheaper, unless you find a good s/h buy. It does seem a bit of overkill to have to buy 72 channels just to accomodate 6 dimmer channels... The equivalent Zero88 box (which has more facilities) will cost about 4 times as much.
djw1981
Fantastic! Is a 25pin Dsub to 8pin DIN cable expensive or cheap or fairly easy to solder?
bruce
That depends how good you are at soldering It's not difficult. More info here and here.
peternewman
Regarding the cables, have a Google, that's been covered before here too. It might also be worth looking at Milford Instruments, including a four channel demux for £50, admittedly its quite expensive compared to the Botex, but depending on space inside the Alphapack (Peter?), you could probably modify them to be DMX capable in the same size box. Something to consider anyway. Obviously with the Botex you can buy more cheap analogue dimmers in the future, and DMX them for no other additional outcome.
