Crew Brew Box

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I have been assigned the dubious task of designing a 'brew box' for our crew to take out on events, I.e a place for the discerning crew member to grab a well earned cuppa.

Just wondered if anybody already had such a thing and where they got them from?

Ideally it needs to be able to hold a small earn, and have drawers in it to hold associated ingredients of hot caffeine based beverages, as well as some mugs (no ploy-styrene/plastic rubbish for us!), and maybe even the odd cheeky biscuit.

Some of our guys would argue that this is the most important case on the truck, so the pressure's on!!

Any help much appreciated!

Our "Comfort Rack" was a thing of legend until it was completely outclassed by these two beauties belonging to Anagram Production Services... Kettle, fridge, microwave and all supplies. Note however how the beer fridge is, rather shoddily, completely lacking in beer, badly letting down an otherwise perfect setup. One day though I will get round to designing and building a Comfort Rack Mark 2 that will blow these things clean outta the water...

I worked with Groupe F (Large French pyrotechnic company) in Brighton and thier Brew box needed a Forklift to get it off the truck. There was alomost a mutiny because it was supposed to have been packed on last so that it was the first thing off but it hadn't been !!!

Personally we just use those tough crates like the ones people hire for office moves. Buy decent ones, not cheap crap from B&Q that wont last 5 minutes.

I wouldn't worry about the lack of beer in that fridge, Foster's doesn't deserve to be called beer and I think they did everyone a favour by removing it from the fridge :(

Did anyone ever see the toaster channel strip for an old analogue desk (Neve I think but don’t quote me!). I think the closest I have to this is the drink holder I have that flips out of my rack I put on top of my bass amp on stage, funny how I made that BEFORE making the more useful guitar holder!

it's also important that your beer is a bit hidden so other crews don't empty your fridge before you do. most backliners probably know the Ampeg "fridge" bass cab. after some guys built a real fridge into those Ampeg had a limited production of refrigerators that looked like 8x10 cabs :(

be creative ;)

(my guitar cab has a bottle opener on the side)

Liked the idea of the Ambulance cases they used on Eurovision, space for a small fire extiguisher and basic first aid stuff would be handy.

In case entertainment is always a possibilty as well, sure weve been there before though...

I used to have a couple of remote control cars in a smallish flight case.

Stick chargers on at start of get in. Set up for gig. Look for a large, empty, flat floor. Ohh, Ive found one! (A few long mic leads make good track edges)

The temptation to re-visit the idea with those little helicopters you can get these days is almost too much :(

I think you may be remembering the specialist expansion strips for Cadac consoles as seen HERE.

Yes of course it was Cadac, my Memory must be failing me in my old age (26)

On a slight side note to this does anyone else get a bit twictchy when people have open drinks around a mixing desk? My FOH tipple is in one of those nike sports bottles that has a valve so nothing will come out unless you provide enough of a pressure difference (suck on it!). I have heard too many horror stories like when the desk at the louisiana in Bristol had a pint dumped over it........

Replying to your side note, yup, I'm with you. Whatever I have with me to drink during a mix (ususally a sports-drink type thing or maybe an iced tea) will be decanted into a bottle with a valve so it can't spill--and even then I keep it on the floor beside me or on a table at the back of a mix position.

(Why do I have a drink at all? After the first time YOU have a coughing fit at a mix position in the auditorium during a quiet death scene in a play, you'll learn to have something to sip too!)
