Jamtastic3
Hi BR.Just wondering if there is anywhere that specialises in prisms and frost filters for moving lights, a kind of system similar to buying gobos or dichroics? Cheers!
gareth
I think the problem you'll encounter with this particular quest is that, unlike custom gobos, components like prisms and frosts are specific to particular moving-light manufacturers, and will probably therefore have to be purchased as direct-replacement spares from the manufacturer or a reseller. I've certainly never come across a third-party company offering after-market alternatives. However, if you do succeed in finding one, let us know! Good luck. Jamtastic3
Yeah, I thought this was the case.I'm interested in changing some 5 facet prisms to 3 facet prisms in some Technobeams. This is why I ask. I'll email HES and see what they say. Shame that there is no dominant market for effect accessories.
greenalien
Try looking for photographic filters - although you'd be using them 'in reverse' they still work perfectly well and there are a large range of multi-prisms available in all the standard photo filter sizes, as well as a lot of other optical effects. paulears
How do the photo filters fit into the clips in the movers?
gareth
Given that the optical path of a moving light is subjected to waaaay more heat than the optical path of an SLR camera, how do photographic filters stand up to that?
Jivemaster
Photo filters of plastic could be a messy mistake! Glass ones better suited! There used to be an exhibitor at PLASA show called "British Optical" who did this sort of thing. Ring Plasa?
