Velcro cable ties

I've been meaning for some time to get a hold of some of those velcro cable tidy gizmos in assorted sizes to have an attempt at making coiled cable management a bit easier, but I'm obviously searching for the wrong thing....

The sort I mean are the ones that can be secured at one end of a cable by wrapping it around (self adhesively??), and there's a velcro tipped strip which wraps round the cable and back on to itself.

I need lots for radio mic leads, audio leads, DMX leads and power leads (15A up to 63A).

As usual, I seem to recall it being discussed here on the BR, but again, searching so far has revealed nought. I continue to look, however.

So - anyone point me at eithet the topic here that was, or at a supplier for these??

Been searching on the usual suspects' sites - Hey Chris B - anything you can show me from CPC??

Cheers

TD

The Maplin ones dont have a loop through to attach to the cable permanently so are ideal for installations when they might be on display, however I prefer the ones that attach around the cable so I dont lose them. I get mine from B&Q and they are made by VELCRO

go onto the cpc website and search for product code OE04214

they come in packs of 5 @ £2.43 a pack

the wide end has a cut out that you loop the other end through.. means they stay on the cables.. and you don't have to put them on when you make the cables, which is handy..

Blimey!

No offense, but they're a tadge on the bright side considering some of these cables are likely to be in line of sight in the grid when in use!

The "cheap and nasty" way to do it (which I use :D ) is to buy the double-sided hoop and look velcro on a roll. CPC have it in 10m coloured rolls for about a tenner (sa 00609 up to 614 also 626), or 25m rolls (black/white only, sa01486/7) for 16 pounds.

Cut to length, then make 2 parallel lengthwise slits at one end.

The Maplin ties do have a slot so they can be attached to the cables, and I have used them on cables up to 20m in length with no problem. As to them being unsightly, I try to keep them at the end of the cable that is out of sight (amp, stagebox etc) and I use them to keep any slack coiled neatly. Can certainly help when clearing up as you can pick up the coils rather than having a tangled mess.

Here ya go guys... here are a few options...

If you have access to our 2007 book there are a host of options on page 1112/1113

Personally I use Releasable Cable ties on my own gear...

http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/pa...sp?SKU=CBBR7725 - the advantage is they can be completely removed and so are not on view to any clients.

Hope this helps!

I used to use releasable cable ties, but they kept getting lost, whereas the velcro ties stay with the cables. Also didn't get on with the tail sticking out from the releasable jobbies.

My velcro chaps are black which is fine and, like Joe, they're generally at the discrete end of cables, like going into the stagebox. I certainly wouldn't want them dangling down from mics!

And, as for using tape - I've had to clear up the mess on the cables from someone who's done this - grrrr!

Mind you, my worst cable management nightmare was to come home once and find that my wife had "tidied" all the cables in my home studio by looping them up and tying each one in a knot. She couldn't understand my fury. Similar frustration came a week later when she did the Mk II tidy up by coiling them and using non-releasable cable ties. She seemed offended when I immediately cut them all off in a grumpy mood. Double-grrr!!!

My favourite is the velcro.

Any double-sided velcro strip with hooks one side, loops on the other works.

Make a single slit in the centre at one end, then tie a Lark's Head around one end of the cable.

Obviously this should be at the discreet end.

A lark's head knot is very quick and easy to undo/retie as necessary though - Just pull on the loop!

I've found them much faster and easier to use than releaseable cable ties - velcro has no sharp edges!

Not a fan of velcro ties personally - after a while they will be gunged up with fluff and lose their stick... I find good old PVC tape to be good for just about any type of cable. Plus you can use each length at least a couple of times if you've got somewhere to stick it.
