Commonwealth Games 2006

I didnt like the apparent big gap when the centre stage was raised above the surrounding dias and there were twirly type things there waiting to come a cropper.

All of which (in an off-topic sort of way) pales into the insignificant beside the truly apalling TV coverage, lousy timing, and incompetent (and frequently incorrect) on screen displays.

Great games though :)

{snip} did anyone else spot the hot fallout in the arena {snip}

I did notice this, however on the BBC coverage in some scenes the fireworks and pyro were watermarked (don't know if that is the correct description) on the back of the arena shot, the hot fall out may not have been on the arena shot but on the background firework image. Does that make any sense?

I didn't notice the potential problem/risk with the pyros, but I did note that John Farnham seemed to be having problems with his monitor feed during the finale...he did most of his last number with his IEM pulled out and hanging down at the back. My Aussie wife (who is a fan) says he was missing some of the lyrics on the same number until he pulled out the IEM.

Just a quick question.

Does anyone know who supplied the lighting for the commonwealth games opening and closing ceremony in Melbourne, and what the rig consisted of?

Cheers

Ollie

:)

You'll find that the topic you started with the exact same question as this is now consigned to the great deleted items folder in the sky. Please do not duplicate your posts - it is not necessary.

Well as a Melbournian who only just managed to get arround to watching a few snippets of it, I want to know what the hell a boy and his duck had to do with the games - apparently it is some famous poem or something, but I have NEVER EVER heard of it, nor has anyone I have spoken to.

I believe it was Bytecraft Entertainment who supplied the equiptment (they seem to get most of the really big events in Melbourne) Press release

Hey folks,

did anyone else spot the hot fallout in the arena from the pyros during the closing ceremony? Looks like un-spent stars reaching the ground! Did anyone else think that was bad?

Yes, I noticed it. It was from an arial shot. It didn't look good as it headed straight into the crowds of Dame Edna's. Which leads me onto my next question:

What's with the fascination in the guy in drag? After some 20 odd years, is he still some great kind of Australian icon? I thought it was a bit over the top, but great and comical at the same time.

p.s. I thought the pyros were amaizing - just the speed and direction they went around the roof of the stadium made my mouth drop a bit. I also thought the rainbow colour mixing effect going around the stadium was pretty cool in the Indian Bhangra dancing bit. Shame that the lighting in general was pretty dark on the performers.

Update on the projection of the Canadian presentation "Come Play With Us".

I originally stated I knew I'd seen a note on how its done, here's the skinny: "We did it with 4 watchout source feed to 16 EIKI 10K lumens projectors (8 on each sides, attached to the top railing of the stadium) and Silicon Optics Reshapers to compensate for the keystone." The "we" in this is the voice of Louis-Pierre Morin, who was (according to the credits) the Projection Assistant on the job. So I guess he would know.

I think some gear came from Chameleon Touring as well.

Show Technology at the Commonwealth Games Ceremonies

Show Technology wish to congratulate the entire team of lighting personnel who worked on the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games. Lighting Designer Mark Hammer, along with his Associate Designer/ Programmer Paul Collison, delivered a fantastic show at the MCG whilst on the river Phil Lethlean left thousands in awe with his beautiful lighting.

Nearly 800 Martin MAC’s were rigged into the MCG as well as Atomic strobes and close on 2000 Pulsar LED fixtures. A further 102 Martin MACs helped light up the river display. Control in the MCG was via six MA Lighting grandMA control desks.

Specialist LED fixtures supplied by Show Technology adorned both the MCG and the river.

For many months prior to these events staff from Show Technology has worked closely with the design team to ensure success for all involved. Next month Show Technology will issue a special commemorative newsletter on the ceremonies which will reveal the technology involved in more detail.
