DMX Testers

Take it your following Clive`s design, think his instructions are pretty clear on his website:

If your following Ben/Brian`s circuit , the Anode (+) of an LED is the longer of the 2 leads and one each goes to each pin, 2 & 3 , the Cathode (-) goes via resistor to remaining pin.

Hope that helps.

All I want is to make a tester that goes red for error in DMX green for good DMX signal.
This is only possible by using a microcontroller of some kind.

To detect "Good" DMX, you have to read the actual data (& framing) and check the timings of the various sections of each packet.

And once you've got that, you might as well add a bit more to the display so you can look at actual levels...

That's all our testers are - though heed Clivey's caveat...
This is a useful little keychain-sized device that can visually display the presence and polarity of data on a DMX lighting control network. It won't prove that the data is valid, and it won't detect glitches or signal echo's, but it's still very useful
