  1. The people I referred to are the company directors of the original, and also the new, Le Maitre - not employees.
  2. As Stuart says... a 'phoenix' company rising from the ashes of a bankrupt one, with a queue of angry but disappointed creditors, is one thing. Creating a situation whereby one of your employees is killed in the workplace and then simply turning your back on the situation, not even bothering to show up at court to face his grieving family, plumbs much lower depths.
  3. [Came back to edit this post after some reflection, as if I were to leave my opinions of how Rick Wilson and Karen Cornacchia have behaved in relation to this young chap losing his life as a result of working practices at Le Maitre being found wanting, I suspect it might open the BR up to potential legal repercussions. Suffice to say that if I was at the helm of a hypothetical manufacturing company which was found to be directly responsible for one of its employees losing their life while at work due to safety and working practices being found wanting, I'd like to think I'd have enough human decency to not be interested solely in distancing myself from the entire sorry episode and saving my own skin...]
  4. Our somewhat esoteric lighting control room library at my old place of work contained a book which featured a pretty detailed, and very interesting, explanation of UKWMO, HANDEL, etc. - it was a fascinating read.
  5. I agree with Kerry. You're at a school for the performing arts. If they're not teaching you how to stage-manage a musical, what exactly *are* they doing? (Also noted that you haven't visited the forum since you posted your question a week ago...)
  6. Maybe try one of the cinema installation companies, like Bell Theatre Services. I'm sure they'll be able to help you with the xenons, and might be able to point you towards someone who wants to buy your projectors (2nd-hand units, or as spare parts donors?)

    Q lab

Pay for a licence - lots of outputs. Don't pay - two outputs. That's it. Why expect something for nothing?

    Flickering TV

OP hasn't returned to the forum since posting his question earlier in the week, so I think we might all be wasting our time here...

    Flickering TV

Do you need to see the actual screen surface? Or just the light of the image on the screen reflecting on an actor's face? Is it an actual practical TV set, or just a cabinet/carcass? What does your tutor suggest as a solution?
  10. Would probably be better not rigged sideways 😉
  11. It's a Thomas 4-cell cyc flood. I've only ever encountered them with 1000w lamps in, but I can't imagine why they wouldn't be happy with a 1250w P2/12.
  12. As with everything in life, you get what you pay for.
  13. Martin Atomic, or equivalent. Particularly the newer LED version - they rock. Best thing for a lightning effect.
  14. I read this when you first posted it at the weekend, and thought "Wow, Brios - haven't seen any of those in a venue or on a show anywhere for years, never mind seen any for sale". Then, a couple of days later, this pops up on Facebook :
  15. With respect, this is not what's under discussion here - we're talking about purpose-built automated follow-spot systems, rather than using a moving light and fudging it from a lighting desk 😉
  16. Based on one show I've worked on which used remote-operation of moving heads as a follow-spot, quite frankly it looked utter dogsh*t. I don't know whether that was the kit not being right for the job, or operator issues, or a combination - but it was awful.
  17. I can tell you exactly what happened, in one word. Genlyte.
  18. I can tell you exactly when Strand Lighting died - 11th July 1996. They used to be industry leaders until that point.
  19. The 'go-to' guy used to be Roger Hennigan at White Light, but I don't think he's with them any more. Might be worth contacting their service department, though, to see if they still have someone who can help.
  20. Show blacks aren't PPE. You may be asked to provide your own, and may be given an allowance towards paying for them. Just remember that if you're provided with uniform at work (which is what show blacks are) and required to launder it at home, you can claim a small tax allowance for that. There's no 'minimum' PPE - every task you're required to undertake as an employee should be subject to a risk assessment and method statement, and within that should be an assessment of the PPE required for that task, which is what should then be provided for you. It's not really vague at all - quite the opposite, in fact, the H&S documentation should be quite specific.
  21. Th short answer to this question is "all of it". As a contracted employee, you should be supplied with any and all PPE deemed necessary for the work you're asked to do.
  22. It's probably right on both counts. Galaxy had two key switches - one for record lock, one for power. One was TOK3, the other TOK 4 - can't remember which way round.
  23. Glad you've got it sorted. Out of curiosity - because I can't remember! - is it the same 'TOK3' or 'TOK4' key as Strand used on Galaxy & Gemini desks?
  24. Had some Rush Par 2s on one of the pantos I programmed last year. In all honesty, I found their output extremely disappointing, and that was from a trim height of a lot less than the 8m which Ian's looking at!
  25. Very unfortunate. It sounded like a great project, and David was certainly enthusiastic about getting it up and running. The Galaxy 3 from my old venue was on its way down there as one of the consoles which was supposed to be part of the project. The decision by certain members of the board to U-turn on their commitment to support this project seems very short-sighted.
