Just don't leave it on too long...as anyone who has tried to use it around a socapex cable in lieu of heatshrink (to protect an asset label for example) will attest, it definitely does seem to leave a sticky residue if it's there long enough!

I'm in the process of looking for options to replace a rig of 48x Par 64's that, for most of their life, run a four colour back wash as two bars of 24 (So six of each colour from each bar) for one nighters every now and then that take place between our main programme. With CP62's, this arrangement just about achieves an even wash from (approximately) an 8 meter trim height on what is effectively a 16m wide stage (by, generally 8-10m deep for these shows) when you take masking into account. Generally speaking, these will get used with standard kind of rock'n'roll saturated colours (Blue, Red, Magenta, Amber, etc), with the occasional open white request thrown in.

In an ideal world, I think I'd be looking at something along the lines of the Chauvet Colorado 2 Solo, having had good experiences with the 1st iteration in a previous venue, but I think cost may put the stoppers on that. Realistically, I think I need to be looking for 24 units at a cost of about £300 (inc VAT) per fixture- I don't really want to drop below 12 units per bar for 'eye candy' purposes, but at the same time, ideally I'd like something with a homogenized output rather than the tacky look of individual LEDs. I don't want anything too fancy from a channel point of view, as it does need to be the sort of thing a visiting lampy can plug into and get going relatively quickly.

Thoughts?

Or...in the same vein as your 90' litter picker/tennis ball idea, what about making some sort of blow-pipe affair out of some 25mm PVC conduit? A snugly fitting foam ball with a bit of string attached popped into the bent end, such that when you blow hard in the other end your ball goes over the RSJ...

Further thought, if you made the bent end 12" long and use, routed the string through the PVC conduit and had a larger ball on the end of it that was too big for the pipe, you could then hold the string tight at the bottom end so that the ball is tight to the conduit opening, 'hook' the pipe over the RSJ, then let the string pay out until the ball is at a suitable height to hook the spanset round (or tie the spanset to the other end of the string, but you'd have to retract the pipe first if you did it that way). Does that make sense?

I was about to suggest the modern day version of the bow and arrow method...a small drone with a bit of string attached, but then I read your last post about the 6" gap. Still doable, but you'd need good piloting skills!

@pscandrett, If I recall correctly (it was about 12 years ago now!), it just output basic ASCII character codes for each button, as indeed did the Strand R120...through a great deal of packet sniffing and protocol analysis, I reckon I probably had 'digital macro tablets' before ETC's R&D department had even dreamt up 'magic sheets'! 😉

Haha, yep...I only got this one when I was in a venue with a (classic) Pearl Tiger...I didn't actually use it for the desk, but used it to code a bit of software that sat on a laptop plugged into the desk...this then let me use my HP iPaq running the strand remote software as a riggers remote for the Pearl!

I’m having a bit of a clear out of stuff that’s of no use, and this has come out of one of my ‘legacy’ boxes… I left avo equipment behind a long time ago now, so I’ve no idea if this is still of any use to anyone…maybe it should be in a museum, or am I (wishful thinking) sitting on a sought after bit of gold dust?!

Actually, I think you’ll find the OP is asking for an analog to DMX adapter, which would be a multiplexer such as this 😛

Although your link would probably work better for what they really want to achieve…!

@Jupton24 , if you can tell us what the make and model of the dimmers is, we could provide some better guidance with regards to @DrV’s comment

Here’s an interesting point I’ve just noticed- IonXe and Gio@5 both only support two external displays. That means without going ‘up’ to an Apex (or using a custom 4-screen Nomad setup as I do when there’s no Gio available), you can only have a total of three screens unless you spend the big bucks 😕

Bigger touchscreens. Yes. What's not to like there?

Point 1- Maybe hard press instead of shift-press for a direct select key? 😛 (although I'd want it the opposite way round- soft press to post to command line, hard press to 'action')

Point 2- Bigger Touchscreens 😕 . If EOS displays worked like MA, where you can 'drag' a window out on a grid whereever, then yep, great. However (and admittedly I don't know if this is still the case with Apex), the way I like to lay things out lends itself well to more smaller screens rather than fewer big ones (hence my preference for the normal Gio- I run the onboard screens as UI, eg, direct selects, and my 22" outboard screens stacked vertically to the left or right as output, eg, live and PSD). Now to be fair, it might be that many of the new 'bits and bobs' on this desk would help mitigate that, but I'm not completely convinced.

Here's how I last had a console set up: the FP laptop on the far left cycles between FP positioning window, alphabetical direct selects, and colour picker using the 'blank' button in the middle of the EOS keypad.

Don't get me wrong (I feel like I'm coming over very negative here), I think there are a lot of neat things going on (separating the 'undo' button from the main bank of keys for one!), but nothing so game changing (for me) that I'll feel like I'm missing out if I don't spec one for my next programming job! Maybe it's because if I need the console to do something it doesn't, I just throw a function or module together in the live development version of FocalPoint to fix the problem, so I'd only really get excited if something that I have no control over changed in a positive way (like being able to drag out windows rather than being constrained to the layout options available).

No more normal Gio? Well that's very disappointing 😞 The standard Gio is my preferred console of choice, mainly down to ergonomics, as I find the Ti puts things a bit too far out of reach, and that new Apex jobby looks like an anthropometric nightmare with the reach to those screens!

I bet you still can't sort direct selects by alphabetical order, so I'm not going to retire FocalPoint as my left hand operating area just yet. That reminds me, I must get the latest version (including aforementioned alphabetical direct selects, relighting module and MA support!) published at some point!

I put this together out of flexible neon for Curve's production of Chicago back in 2013...I can't really remember, but I think lots of end caps, black cable, and black wrap were all involved...it also lit up 'VELMA' in blue, but under show conditions and the right lighting, you couldn't see whichever wasn't on:

Worth bearing in mind that the smoke from a geyser dissipates pretty much instantly- I don’t know if they do a fluid that hangs around as the OP wants. It’ll also only fire for about 30 seconds before it needs to stop to reheat for the next burst. (Speaking from actual show-based experience!)

Does anyone know if it's possible to format the labels on buttons and such like in D&B's R1 software? As far as I can see, the only control that you can actually adjust text parameters on is a 'text' control, meaning I have to resize the other elements to fit the text, rather than the other way around.

How about if @Triode's contractor invoiced the client directly for the work, and Triode invoiced the client (or even his contractor) for the equipment hire? Would this limit Triode's liability to ensuring the equipment is safe for use?
