Is it just me? Trying to use a circle FX on some Selecon SL180s and it is moving in a figure of 8. Am I doing something dumb? Version 1.9.9.5

Don't know about this particular fixture but you might have to slow down the circle effect from the console to get a circle from the fixture.

Thanks for replying but that's not the problem. The fixtures are reasonably fast and I did try it really slowly, and with a very small FX size to make sure.

This happens on all moving heads where the middle of the circle contains the 50% tilt position. A circle effect is just moving the pan and tilt from one position to another and back again, which only describes a circle when the tilt doesn't invert the direction of the pan as part of the movement.

Simple way to think of it is for a moving head pointing straight down (or up), for it to draw an actual circle you would require infinite panning and no change in tilt.

Point the fixture out at 90 degrees to the base and the circle effect will correctly draw a circle.

Well, it took me a few minutes of mental gymnastics, but yes, I see it. Tried to imagine describing a circle on the tabs with a follow spot, which works but then tried imagining describing it on the ceiling and I can see -  the wires would get twisted up!

Thanks for that
