DMX glitches

Glad to see I'm not the only one who experiences these

 

Was at Adre Rieu last night and about a dozen or so quite noticeable glitches through the show.

Of course I don't know what the source of the issue is though

I'm on about a glitch in the system where the lights are not doing what's expected, in this case all the lights on at least two lighting tower flickered occasionally. I've mentioned DMX but as already mentioned I don't know what caused them.

Whoa David, it's just a conversational chat, nobody's attacking anyone's work. We all have glitches on our jobs sometimes and all he is saying is it's reassuring to know that big events have the same problems as small events. 

This forum will end up with no content at all if people don't post a bit of chat to discuss.

I must add this show is well into its run and I'd have expected problems to be ironed out by then but of course we also know how things can fail too. I generally don't get the chance to de-bug as much of my work, and yes the vast majority is small - tiny, is only for one event and rarely a run.

I'm sure we've all had events where a previously undetected gremlin pops up at showtime. Or, there were several problems in setup and you ran out of time to fix them all. Or you thought you'd fixed it but it turns out you hadn't.

Indeed so. One we had a couple of years ago manifested by LED battens occasionally flashing, which was eventually traced to a poor quality XLR on the DMX out that the terminator was plugged into and wasn't always terminating.
