Let’s hope the value side stays intact and we don’t see some big price hikes. That indeed could influence the buying decisions in favour of the higher end competition like ETC (and then another great British company goes to the wall). Watch this space…

It was actually October 1995 when Rank took the decision to get rid of the Precision Industries division (Strand, Cintel, Taylor-Hobson, etc) along with Pinewood Studios and concentrate on Bingo, Casinos and Leisure. Strand had actually had its best year ever (for both turnover and profit) in 1994, which may have contributed to the sale decision, as previously Strand had been the tax-loss division of Rank, happy that it didn't make a profit so that it could offset the losses against its corp tax.
