MR16 battens (looking for)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm on the search for some MR16 battens (to purchase), like the ones Thomas used to make. Can't for the life of me think what we used to call them, so Google isn't helping!

Don't suppose you have any or know of someone who is looking to shift some on?

The 3-circuit (30 lamp) ones would be ideal but anything considered!

Have a show at the end of Feb where they would be ideal to sit around the prosc arch.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Cheers,

Barney

Another option for this look these days is Showtec Sunstrips (or similar) of various types and capabilities. Or some kind of LED strips.

Thanks Rob.

It's a short-run local youth theatre show, so LX budget is minimal. As I could do with covering 2 runs of 6 metres I was thinking that acquiring some old MR16 units that someone doesn't use anymore may be more cost effective than 12 metres of LED units.

I could use LED tape (that I already have), but would prefer the look of discrete 'lamps' as they will be front-facing.

Cheers,
Barney

A lot of places have the tungsten Sunstrips in hire stock for something like £20-30 + VAT each, which seems pretty reasonable.

The LED version might be a bit more, but perhaps worth it - 9kW is rather a lot of power in a small venue.

Sunstrips might indeed be a good bet. They're pretty 'old hat' these days, so you might be able to find some (rental or purchase) which work for you budget-wise.

There's definitely something about the look of a tungsten lamp used for eye candy which you just don't get from any LED alternative.

Word. I'm still keeping a load just about going for a hire stock. Old hat but still go out a lot.

Thanks FLB,

I think I've got hold of a load of tungsten sunstrips (as suggested by Rob) at £10 each (hire), so that should be problem solved. We get the right visual effect but also the bonus of controlling each lamp independently.

Cheers for the offer though.

Kind regards,
Barney
