Thanks - massively useful. I’ve chopped the old battery out and will give the board a gentle scrub when the pcb cleaner arrives.

 

I’m a bit worried that a couple of components may have died - will give it all a clean and try them but any idea what they are?

 

I can’t plug the desk in at the minute as I’ve taken that board out and it has the vga card on it! Will see if the test software is on there when I do though..

Good news - removing battery and giving the board a good clean seems to have fixed it!! Finger crossed it will now be fine for another 20 years..

As mentioned earlier, I remove and leave out the battery. But this is only for the kit that I have.

 

For a customers console, I've gotten into the habit of mounting and securing the battery remotely off the PCB such that if the battery decides to leak, no further damage will occur to the PCB.

I think I will leave off - the console isn’t likely to get regular use so it seems a lot safer. Thanks!
