Great service from Orchid Electronics

Over the years I’ve bought a few bits and pieces from Orchid Electronics - DIs etc.

 

I’ve also got one of their “Contact Mic Power Supplies” - which is a bit more specialised - a power supply for Microvox-type microphones for accordions and acoustic instruments. Unlike the one that Microvox supply, this one is phantom powered. http://orchid-electronics.co.uk/contact_mic.htm

 

I can’t remember when I bought it, but I’d guess it’s at least 10 years ago. It’s a great bit of kit (albeit targeting a very niche market!) and I know of at least 2 people who have borrowed mine to try it, then bought one.

 

It’s built like a tank - but I managed to break it. Dropped it when packing it away, and it landed on the volume pot. After that, the pot was a bit shaky, and made intermittent connection.

 

I emailed John (mixermend on this forum) on Saturday evening, asking if he could confirm the part number, and whether it was a standard RS/etc part. I got a reply the same evening, confirming the part number and giving me the RS stock code for it. He also said that RS were temporarily out of stock, but he should have some in the workshop.

 

Another email on Monday just to check my address hadn’t changed, and the replacement part arrived today.
