kullboys12
Hello allNow that ETC no longer are no longer releasing software for the older ETC desks, can anyone give me a ballpark figure for the Ion upgrade? Thanks.
alistermorton
They haven't stopped yet (3.0 will be the first one that excludes the XP ions, sometime in the late summer is the expected timeline). The cost is dependent on exactly what configuration of ion you have (motherboard type, case type) and how much needs changing. You need to call your dealer for a firm quote, but figures bandied about on the Eos facebook page are in the $1.5-3K range, but of course that's anecdotal and varies depending on region and currency. Where are you located? Call your dealer.
sparkyweb
Just to jump in here, its only the embedded XP consoles that are affected and ETC will continue to support the console with fixture updates after this time. As Alistermorton says speak with your dealer for more info. Don't forget to give them the serial number.
alistermorton
To be honest I've only seen people discuss upgrading Ions (and maybe elements - not sure) rather than the bigger consoles. I don't think the classic EOS can be upgraded, for example.

J Pearce
The classic EOS built in touchscreens (and possibly other hardware) are apparently not compatible with Windows 7. Ion and Element are both upgradeable, but different ages of console need different upgrade kits, hence the lack of a clear price. You need to give the desk serial number to a dealer. Ynot
Yep, as others have said it depends on several factors. I'm getting a quote for upgrading our old Ion at the moment which is a 2011 XP vintage. It's OK for the standard UPGRADE rather than the more involved and expensive REBUILD (ie more bits will need to be replaced in a rebuild). However there's also the question of any fader wings you may have. If the USB socket on the wing is orange you won't need to upgrade the wing as well if you want to have it docked onto the programming wing - anything else (eg blue or black) then you would - although for some reason you can still use a non-upgraded fader panel with the upgraded desk (or in fact any Eos s/w desk) if you just connect with a standard USB cable. Not quite sure why, but hey ho. Some good information here. As for pricing, that will depend entirely on your relationship (and buying power) with your usual dealer :D
