AnnieB Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 everyone, we have had the 6mm hardwood oil tempered flooring installed. the floor was painted black (normal). every time we take up pv take, the paint comes with it. Is there a solution for this?
Jevans Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 We tried mixing PVA into the first few layers when we had our new floor put down - to be honest, it didn't help. We repaint pretty frequently. As it's oil tempered the paint doesn't really soak in I think, it's just the nature of it.
AnnieB Posted December 5, 2018 Author Posted December 5, 2018 thanks for that. we have a new show in each week, so its going to be a lot of painting
DrV Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 Looking at the problem from the other end, could you use a lower tack tape? Can't recommend anything specific but they are bound to be out there.Dave
Shez Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 We've had to ban use of gaff on our stage for exactly that reason. LX isn't quite so bad as long as it's not left down for weeks on end. Cables are all covered with rubber mats which do the job fine (and are far easier to tuck another last minute cable under than tape is!) It does need regularly repainting and other than the day after that job, it spends most of its time looking a little tatty, sadly.
J Pearce Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 My experience with this sort of floor is that it is not the paint coming up, but moreso the actual timber. Usually you can see the fluffs of hardboard on the tape as you pull it up. A hard glaze can help - mix a little black paint with the glaze, it will help it not go milky as it cures.
gyro_gearloose Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 We’ve recently re-skinned our stage but with MDF rather than hardboard. We are finding that no matter what the stage is painted with, pulling off pvc lx tape pulls off all the layers of paint and some of the wood fibres. We used Flints black paint, but have tried samples of very expensive Zinsser primer which made no difference.
AnnieB Posted December 10, 2018 Author Posted December 10, 2018 Hi everyone, thank you all so very much for you responses. it looks like a poor choice was made in the flooring, however, we will have to soldier on, until money becomes available for a new one. my thanks to all wishing you a joyful Christmas. Anne
