Fridge Freezer onstage

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Has anybody used a working fridge freezer onstage? I don't need it plugged in on stage, but the fridge and freezer are in workin gorder Do you need to degass it? and in which case where do you go to get it degassed?

Thanks

We had a functioning fridge freezer onstage this year, along with practical kettle, microwave, toaster, and water tap.

We didn't indentify any hazards that required modifying the fridge, but it was in situ the whole show week - it wasn't moved around for scene changes.

Lots more effort than it's possibly worth to de-gas a unit, and it's then scrap you may well have to pay for it's disposal. Keep it upright +/- 15 degrees at all times. If you are going to have things inside then consider that they will be effectively stored under the lights and may not have their advertised life.

Check the type of refrigerant used and refer to your flammability guidelines. Some are toxic especially in limited spaces, others are highly flammable.

If you do need a degassed non-working one, your local recycling place may be able to oblige.

IMHO a fridge is very low risk if not being used, and still reasonably low risk even if in use.

The older types of refrigerant gas are damaging to the ozone layer if released, but not any of any significant local risk. The newer types of refrigerant are highly flammable but are used in very modest volumes, less than the contents of a single small spray can.
