jason5d
We have a Chauvet colorbar SMD with a psu fault. Looking inside on the 13a side of the psu. When I switch on I see a spark leap from a capacitorto a copper coil, there's also a loud crack. There's no visible damage throughout the whole light I'm a good solderer, does anyone have thoughts on whichcomponents to swap in the psu as a new one for the colorbar costsa fair bit. They are definitely NOT something to experiment on without all the necessary safety gear in place (current limited supply, mains isolating transformer etc). Sorry not to be more helpful but there is a seriously lethal amount of energy stored in even a small SMPSU and it often remains there even after you've disconnected it from the mains. timsabre
Is it a separate psu module, if so just replace the module, Chauvet sell them as spares. DrV is right, they are nasty things to work on, I am experienced at fixing smpsu's but I would still replace the module where it is possible to buy one.
