alanbower
Hi there, I'm hoping you all can help me clear something up lovely guys and gals! With steeldeck and lite deck etc is it OK to paint the metal framework? I've been told by some people that it's ok and others say no as you may need to inspect the welds. Is there a definitive answer to this!?? Many thanks in advance, Alan
timsabre
Steeldeck is painted anyway so I can't see a problem there. The only problem I can think of with painting Litedeck is that it chips off really easily and will quickly look a mess if you don't keep touching it up. Ynot
I am no expert, but I'd suspect that the 'no paint so the welds can be inspected' is a bit of a fishwive's tale. Possibly started by someone who simply doesn't want anyone making a mess of his/her shiny decking. And I can completely accept that as a valid reason (the "Don't mess with my decks" principle) as it does look unsightly if you occasionally do leave the deck edges visible as part of a design. And there's plenty of examples of all sorts of metalwork that's welded and painted as part of the normal business that would suggest this is far from the truth, too. WiLL
Steeldeck can be painted, but painting the edges repeatedly will eventually create a build up of paint which means that two pieces won't butt up quite as neatly. And have you ever seen anyone inspecting the welds on a piece of steeldeck? ever?.
