Kramer VP 747 in need of repair

HiAnyone know of a good reputable company that repairs video switchers. Kramer VP-747. Please don't say send to Kramer. Contacted Kramer and they told me it was unrepairable over email even without seeing it . So won't be buying any more Kramer gear after that when they can't even repair there own equipment. Parts no longer available I was told which I find extremely hard to believe. They were more interested in upselling me another switcher. All The Hdmi outputs main and preview and the vga main have just stopped working. Funny enough the preview vga still works but it's the only out that works.I know this switcher is abit old now But it still plays a part in my setup and would prefer it working. I'm sure someone out there knows an expert in this field and I would gratefully appreciate a contact of such a company in uk or Ireland.

Kramer products have a 7 year warranty, the 747 is a fairly recent product, so one assumes its almost certainly under warranty. In my experience the Kramer repairs procedure is very straightforward, so id properly explore the warranty repair first....

Thanks for the reply. 7 year warranty only applies if you bought new and have the receipt to prove it. I bought a Used unit 3 years ago still paid a hell of a lot of money for it at the time. It's funny how they could repair a unit under warranty and mine is Unrepairable because I don't have a receipt of first purchase.

Unlike some new car warranties these days, which allows any subsequent buyer to continue the balance of the remaining warranty, in the AV world the warranty cover only ever applies to the initial purchaser, hence why they won't look at it now.

To be honest, I don't know of anyone still running Kramer switchers (outside of permanent installs) so having had three years' use out of it, I'd say that you've done well!

Hi Gerry,

I was just reading this and noitce you are in Ireland. I would be willing to take a look at it. It maybe something that could be easy fix.

does the unit output anything when you power it up and is there sign of power getting to the uint ie led lite or a LCD screen showing any info.

Hi TonyThanks for your reply

I will power it up in the morning and revert back to you with that info. I had it powered up when I tried the outputs but I will check does the Kramer boot up logo come on at the very start. I would be happy for you to have a look. Regards GerryP.s the unit itself powers up perfectly just the output hdmi and vga/bnc main output dead.

If it's not going to be supported by Kramer, then there's no harm in opening the unit up to check that all cables and circuit boards are seated correctly.

Hi Pete . Yes did this bit already and all looks ok. But thank you. Tony Sorry the late reply . I did check it yesterday on boot up and no signal at all. I found a electronic repair company in the uk and have agreed to send it to them . They specialise in broadcast equipment and are confident that they can repair but thank you for your offer. I will post the company info here if they agree to it and can repair it.Many ThanksGerry
