nikkicallaghan
I've just been asked by a small venue on what size and power illuminated exit signs have to be. I'm having issues finding definitive info on the net so I was hoping someone here has some experience of it. Apologies if this is in the wrong forum
the kid
You would think it must be easy. The best I could find quickly was http://www.firesafe.org.uk/bs-5499-safety-signs-including-fire-safety-signs/ . There are a bunch of BS codes at the bottom but possible your local fire station is the best bet?
richard
ABTT technical standards for places of entertainment is your friend here - in terms of brightness they usually just have to be visible to the appropriate people - in some venues they get brighter/dimmer when the houslights go on and off. Note that if the exit sign is performing the dual purpose of providing maintained light for the ailse then you need to get 0.3lux to that point - the usual signs are simple 8w flourescents which tend to do the job. Re size, the guide seems to say 75mm is max 15m view, 150mm 30m (200:1 ratio) - helpfully the book doesn't say what the 75mm or 150mm actually relate to, I believe they mean the height!
