Amy Worrall
As for the most professional, most professionals would use a venue they could hang the masking from...... True, this is definitely an amateur gig. I'm still considering ways to make it look as nice as possible, though :) As for venues, I do quite like the challenge of teching at Churchill Gardens… but really, we use it because it's dirt cheap and the location is decent. The Christmas panto is essentially a fundraiser — for our summer show we use the Bridewell theatre. The latter has its own problems hanging things (we needed a cyc for Act 1 but not Act 2 — it involved rigging our own arrangement of ropes and pulleys to raise and lower a spare lighting bar) but it is definitely better equipped! Jivemaster
The Manfrotto Autopole and it's range of kit is good and light, it will clamp between floor and ceiling. It's available in black. DO NOTE the SWL it's not high. There is a tripod base in case you need to use them freestanding.
Junior8
I'd get a local scaffolding firm in and see what they can do for you. A simple frame might also do away with the need for LX stands in the wings too. They might do it for nothing for a participation credit in the programme.
