MarkBarl
Has anyone got experience of a P16m not powering up via ethernet connection. It is directly into a P16-D. Works fine with external power, others work off the ethernet but this one won't power up.
timsabre
Has anyone got experience of a P16m not powering up via ethernet connection. It is directly into a P16-D. Works fine with external power, others work off the ethernet but this one won't power up. Not as such, though did some poking when the power supply in our P16D box blew up 5 minutes before event start. The main thing I found was that it is not actually ethernet or "power over ethernet". It's just serial data with power on 4 of the pins: pinout: 1: Ch 1-8 (TD+) 2: Ch 1-8 (TD-) 3: Ch 9-16 (TD+) 4: Vcc 5: Vcc 6: Ch 9-16 (TD-) 7: GND 8: GND so this might help to track down the problem. Presumably you have swapped wires and ports on the P16D to check that the P16m itself is the problem. some more info on the protocol/wiring here:http://reverseengineering.stackexchange.com/questions/10860/how-do-I-work-out-the-ultranet-protocol
bricummo
Forgive me if this is stating the obvious but is the little power switch pressed in on the unit? I have had a similar thing happen, or change the cable?
dbuckley
Yeah, there is a common misconception that Behringer Ultranet is Ethernet based, presumably because it uses RJ45 connectors and Cat5 cabling. I wish it would go away.
paulears
I must admit the need to press the little button has flummoxed me in the past.

Me too, however if he's had it working with the external power supply then it must be pressed, as that switch does both ultranet power and ext DC power. I did notice that they never make mention of PoE and that will be why. Of course nothing says that they can't use Cat5 cable for a serial connection. Makes me wonder what the practical limit of cable length is.
