Prodman22
Hi I have a large budget approx 35000 to invest in LED theatre lighting to complement my existing stock of ETC source 4 zooms tungstun and slection of varilites namely VL1000 TD's and VL500D. Im particular interested in the new ETC coloursource Spots. How well do they reproduce Tungstun light ? are they close to the source 4 lustrs at all ? Also can anyone recommend a led replacement for a VL1000TD that has shutters but costs no more that £6000 inc VAT ?
Ynot
I had a brief demo of the Colorsource profile at my venue last year and whilst impressive at producing mixed colours, it's still in fact just an RGB fixture (Looking at the ETC site it's actually RGB-L - L for lime, which I have to say I didn't recall from the demo)The Lustr series of course use the 7-colour mixing engines, and whilst they also don't have a white LED the mix for a variety of whites as a mix is far better in my opinion. IRW
We had a demo back in the summer of the Series 2 Lustr vs. the Colorsource Spot- the Lustr blew the Colorsorce unit out of the water.
gareth
To be fair, chaps, the Lustr and Coloursource aren't intended to be direct competitors - they're two different products, at different price points, intended for different parts of the LED stage lighting market. What I will say is that they're both really good at what they do!
litemog
A lot depends on what you want the units to be used for. I've just put both the Lustre S2 and the coloursource spot into a venue. The coloursources are very good for the money, particularly for backlight washes, gobo washes and dance sidelight, and although their pastel range is pretty good, they are never going to be able to match the subtle hues available from the Lustres. In my opinion both units are a bit lacking in the deeper blues, especially the Coloursource spots, something that ETC have recognised in their release of the "Deeper Blue" version of the coloursource. This increases the range of deep blues but sacrifices some of the pastels. Again it is all about how you see the particular units being used. The Robin DL4S , which is RGBW mixing with shuttering is a very handy piece of kit and is certainly more flexible than the VL1100's that are also in the rig. In a recent show they went from providing a full gobo wash over the FOH tabs in one cue, to highlighting an 8 inch square on the back wall in the next. Cost was around £4500. The colour range is very good and in the deeper blue/magenta range produces colours that neither the Lustre or the Coloursource can match. The DL7S is considerably larger but has the 7 colour emitters similar to the Lustres. However, I don't have any direct experience of these units so can't comment on the pros and cons of these. IRW
To be fair, chaps, the Lustr and Coloursource aren't intended to be direct competitors - they're two different products, at different price points, intended for different parts of the LED stage lighting market. What I will say is that they're both really good at what they do! Agreed, sorry I should have said that! We decided thst the Colorsource would probably be fine for our smaller teaching rooms, but wouldn't cut the mustard in our main venue where they were destined to replace some Cantata 18/32's.
