nikkicallaghan
I hate to admit it but just watched a bit of big brother and was wondering with it being live broadcast if they have more than one set of power coming in to the ob truck and the set lighting so they can't lose power during broadcast
kerry davies
Most boring job in the business? Managing the standby gennies for BB. Turn them on. Switch off the mains. "Ooh look! They work." Turn on mains. Turn off gennies. Read another book. It isn't always 100% live either, they do run delays of a few minutes to cover for legal and taste reasons. gareth
Good lighting rig though Haven't watched BB for years, so I have no idea what it looks like these days. But I did a couple of short stints as a moving light tech on it several years ago, when Mike Lingard used to light the studio portions just after it moved to Elstree, and I don't remember seeing any gen sets around the place. Big Dave
BB is not really a temporary setup, it is permenantly located out the back of Elstree. The " village " is run from mains power however there is a back up generator on site to power certain primary systems should there be a power failure. Andrew C
All those back ups! What a shame; otherwise, with a carefully applied pair of wire cutters...
