Finally got around to sorting this problem. Don't do it unless you have to, it was a P.I.A.

and I am used to soldering.

of the 4 pole jack

Tip Earbud hot Left

Ring 1 Earbud Right

Ring 2 Ground of L&R earbuds and Mic.

Chassis/Case Mic Hot.

The earbuds had a mic, and volume control, pause and start button, with the Mic Hot and Ground wired the other way which seemed more logical to me, the control functions did not work properly.

The cable was made of:

A tightly would copper insulated cable, red, Left Hot

A loosely wound red copper insulated cable which was the Left Return

A tightly wound copper insulated cable, Green Right Hot

A loosely wound green copper insulated cable which was the Right return

A plastic insulated MIc Hot cable.

A copper lapped screen Mic Return/ground.

The plug and cable were B*****s to solder.

Cost of repair:

2 X 4 pole 3.5mm jack.

1 X Illuminated magnifier.
