alistermorton
If you're willing to spend and code yourself, brainboxes do all sorts of rs485 & rs422 adaptor s that can be set to whatever baud rate you want. Up to a megabit/sec. http://www.brainboxes.com/store Even CPC do a USB serial port that will to 600kb/s - faster than DMX needs. Add a 485 converter and .. you never know. At under a tenner I might be tempted to experiment.
Barreller
We've got an LC2412 as well!! (First Mistake!). Why not get a MagicQ dongle and control it all from a laptop. Learning MagicQ is a challenge for an amateur - well it was for this one - but what a superb bit of kit and only £10ish for the time limited dongle. 48 channels of dimming and all the features you could ever want. Laptops aren't that fragile and are designed to be dragged around!! ps Anybody want a hardly used LC2412?
diacong
Hi all,I'm the OP and must apologise for not having got back sooner but life has been a bit traumatic here of late. Things have calmed down now and I'm beginning to think about our next production in May. I'm inclined to forget the LC2412 and go for the the Chamsys dongle solution using a Windows tablet PC which I have. One of the replies to my original post suggested using a DMX decoder/controller and incandescent lamps to monitor the output levels. Would this be suitable? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/24CH-DMX-dimmer-Controller-24-channel-1A-CH-8-group-dmx512-dimmer-3P-Decoder-/171665353623?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Lighting_Controllers_Dimmers&hash=item27f80d6b97 Once again apologies for my etiquette failure. pmiller056
The ebay item linked to will make a good 24channel DMX monitor when used with small (12V 50mA) incandescent lamps. DonkiDonki
If you do go with MagicQ then you can use the included visualiser. There are some setup guides on youtube for magicq and the visualiser; I would suggest taking a look at those to get some idea of whether this may suit you.
