dbuckley
The issue I always worried about with these was ground bounce when there was a bit of distance between the controller and power supply, and the strip. So I always used a heavy ground wire, 2.5mm if memory recall is working. But having not had the expected problems after doing this a few times, I suspect there wasn't the sudden change in load to cause the bounce I was expecting, due to the clocked nature of the beast. It may look like all the LEDs are coming on together, but they are in reality going on one as a time.
kaareolai
I've been handed some WS28xx (prob 2811) based RGB digital tape and asked to sort out a controller for it...preferably one that's DMX controllable. I have good experience with "BC-820 (DMX to SPI converter, several protocols)", found examplewise from some sellers on AliExpress.
